This Saturday we went to eat at Indian restaurant "Maharaja" in the Raval of Barcelona and we assure you that the name is a guarantee: we have eaten like two true kings! Javi, its owner, a man who was born in the Indian region of Punjab and has lived in Barcelona for 25 years, has been our perfect host: he has explained many secrets of Indian cuisine and has taken care of us with love.

Do you want to know and see what we have eaten?

They are crispy crepes made with legumes (lentil flour / chickpeas) that are served as a side dish or entree and that are dipped with sauces and chutneys.

We tested them with peppermint sauce, mango chutney and a spicy sauce We loved that Javi explained to us that every time they prepare it they make a minimum of 100 kg since its elaboration is long ... vegetables are mixed with endless Indian spices and left 3 days in the sun, but the thing does not end here: let the sauce “rest” 90 days until it is ready! We are not very spicy, but this one, with lemon aftertaste we loved it.

They are a mixture of several vegetables battered with chickpea flour and fried. If they get wet with mint chutney they are truly addictive!

Chicken Tandori is one of the star dishes of Indian cuisine ... and rightly so! The chicken is marinated for 12 hours in a mixture of yogurt and spices and is cooked in special clay ovens, or grilled. The taste is really unique!

In the Maharaja restaurant we try one of the thousands of lentil dishes that are cooked in India: Dal fry. Rober is very lean. Lifelong. I had never tried them before and they crossed out: I loved them! From today I get into the car of the lens-lovers! The dish we ate was requetebueno: again, the great wisdom of Indian cuisine (and its cooks) make the mixture and the perfect balance of spices create a unique flavor. Come on, my legume passion is inaugurated!

We had never eaten butter chicken: de-li-cio-so! It is a plate of chicken breast roasted in tandori and cooked with tomato sauce, cream, Indian spices and butter. We have fallen in love: good, please, I want to repeat now!

I never get such good rice, why, why, why? And the Nan? Ideal for dipping the lentil and butter chicken sauce. We would never get tired of eating it!

And to finish a mint tea and of course, talks and travel plans. We are backpacks, you know!

Moral: if you live or travel to Barcelona you can not stop eating here.

Why go to the Maharaja Restaurant? We give you 10 reasons:

  • There are 140 different dishes that you can try, surely one richer than another.
  • The food is delicious, we loved everything we tried.
  • Javi is an ideal host, if you have any curiosity or question about the food he will get you out of doubt.
  • The service is friendly and attentive, something that is always appreciated, and not always found.
  • The theme of spicy in Indian restaurants is always controversial: here you can order very spicy, spicy or without spicy (if you have doubts you can also bring the sauce apart so you can throw it to your liking).
  • The restaurant is located on the Rambla del Raval, in the heart of one of the most interesting neighborhoods of Barcelona.
  • If you read us, you are another addicted traveler and what better way to travel "at a distance" if not through food?
  • It's only worth the butter chicken!
  • The restaurant "Maharaja" has been open since 2001 ... and for something it will be.
