Our trip to Sri Lanka and the Maldives for free allowed us to know for 24 days two countries that we found perfect as a combination of adventure and relaxation.
We spent the first 16 days in Sri Lanka where we marked three quite different areas to visit. The first was the south of the country, where we met places like Mirissa, Unawatuna, Galle, Dondra, Wewurukannala, Bow Hole, Tangalle, Goyambokka, Tissa, Yala ...
From here we jump to the Highlands area, famous for its tea plantations, where we toured such incredible places as Ella, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy and where we were lucky to enjoy one of the most beautiful train tours in the world.
From here we pass to the Cultural Triangle area, where we met Aluvihara, Dambulla, Pidurangala, Sigiriya, Minneruya, Polonnaruwa, Aukana, Anuradhapura and Mihintale, which was our last stop in Sri Lanka, before heading to Negombo Airport, from where we moved to Malé, the capital of Maldives, where we spent the night waiting for the seaplane that took us to one of the most beautiful paradise in the world: The Diamonds Thudufushi, where we spent the last 6 days of our trip, enjoying the paradise in capital letters.
The best time to travel to Sri Lanka is outside the rainy season and although we travel in the middle of the monsoon and we have to say that it only rained us one afternoon, it was too risky, so whenever possible, we recommend doing so between the months from December to March, which is the dry season.
The best time to travel to Maldives is likewise what is considered dry season, from November to April, although from our experience, we can say that any time is good to travel to paradise and more when the rains that are usually there are small showers , normally located at night hours. This was our last stage of the trip to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
We recommend making the trip for free by making a circular route, either by renting a car or a tuk tuk, or by hiring a car with a driver.
