Day 3: TALLIN

Sunday, April 8, 2012

Today we woke up a little later than the previous days, which have been quite early for our bodies. Last night we set the alarm clock at 8.30 in the morning and took advantage until the last moment in bed, doing the tugs, for that we are on vacation. Although these last minutes we can not stop thinking about the things we have to see in Tallinn.
The first thing we do is look out the window of the Metropol Hotel and we get excited to see that it is all covered with snow, but the sky is very clear.
It is one of the things we most wanted to see: the city of tallinn snowfall, but in good weather.

Yes, yes ... I know it's asking too much, but hey ... everyone asks for what they want! 🙂 And our wish has been fulfilled.

Snow? Yes!!!!!

We went down to breakfast and shortly before 10 we set foot on the street.
It's quite cold in Estonia, so we can't stop wearing the hat, scarf and gloves. Impossible to go without them or after a few minutes you stay like a gall.
As soon as we leave the hotel, we take out the cameras. The truth is that we have "monkey" to take pictures in this city that still "has not let go".
A good option if you want to learn more about the history of the city is to book a free tour of Tallinn with a guide in Spanish. Free! or this private tour.
We are less than 5 minutes from the entrance to the old city through the Viru Gate, so it didn't take us long to get there, even though we had fun taking pictures of anything that has crossed with us.
As soon as we reach this part of the city of Tallinn, we smile in our mouths. It is as we had imagined it in our mind. Yes we were the first day in this area, but it is not the same as today. Today it is showing us different, today it is dressed up for us.

Viru Gate

It seems that little by little we are going into those fairytale cities that made us dream of children so much.

Entering the "city" of Tallinn

Seeing that the sky is very clear and consulting the weather (I had said that we have Free wifi in almost all places in Tallinn and of Estonia? :)) We decided that it is best to go first to the viewpoints now that it is early and we deduce that there will not be many people.
The first day we were able to go to a couple of them, but raining the truth is that we didn't want to look too much waiting for a better day to come forward and make the most of it.
We don't need to look too much at the map to find the street that will take us to the first tallinn viewpoint.

Although it seems a lie, this city takes you alone ... or perhaps it is that in this city any corner lends itself to be seen and admired.
On the way we pass through the center and the famous Olde Hansa of Tallinn in Estonia, where we want to eat today if we follow our plans.

Olde Hansa. What see in Tallinn

We follow our path and meet the Puhavaimu church.

We continue?

In this part of the road we stopped to take pictures and we did not "leave a puppet with a head".

We continue our way, wishing to reach the viewpoint, but we do not stop finding places to stop ... At this rate we will not arrive until the afternoon!

We continue climbing and finally we reach the first viewpoint after climbing the narrowest street with steps.

Going up…

We have read that there are 2 accesses and the destination has led us to this, which is where people used to climb.
The other access is wider and it was where the cars climbed.
Once above we see that there are more people than we expected and the truth is that it surprises us.

Arriving at the Tallinn viewpoint

You have to be careful when you approach the railing because there is ice and one after another we are slipping when we try to look out to see what awaits us on the other side ...

Color change in Tallinn

Here we find a kind of loop that we cannot avoid and it is to look again each time that piece of railing runs out of people.
We do not know how long we were, but it sure was enough to decide that we would not see anything better to this in this trip, it is certainly Tallinn's best viewpoint.

We stayed? Tallinn

It is clear that we had to turn around and follow our path ... but before we have done what we do so many times, go back on our steps to see again, perhaps for the last time, that image of Snowy tallinn.

Tallinn

Now it's time to circle the city a little more to get to the next viewpoint.
We continue with a smile on our mouth from what we have just seen. But it must be said that this city is very photogenic and makes itself loved.

We arrive at the next viewpoint and although it is not as beautiful as the previous one, we also like the views that are seen from here.
There are not so many people and we seize the moment 🙂

We follow our path again and we set off to reach the Tallinn Main Square.
On the way we meet again with details that make us turn more than once, trying to stay with that image forever.

Without hurry but without pause we arrive at the Plaza and there we are a good time, taking advantage of some sun rays that do not encourage more on this day that is being presented to us perfect.

It's already after 2 in the afternoon and our stomach starts to itch, so we go straight to the Olde Hansa restaurant in Tallinn which is one of the stops that we have marked as mandatory in the gastronomic section.

It is fully set and have a letter in Spanish. We choose a couple of dishes, because the menus seem too copious and we don't feel like eating so much.
Chicken with almonds and Meat with garnish ... Everything great and for less than 40 euros.

At the exit of Olde Hansa and before going to the hotel to rest for a while, we take several photos to places that we have found very original and in which this morning we did not want to stop because of the desire to reach the viewpoints soon.

In less than 5 minutes we are back in the room of the Tallinn hotel where we rest for a while, which is also good while on vacation and we wait for the afternoon to return to go out for the last walk in the city.
Shortly after 5 pm, we get back on track and we realize that the cold is still there ... just look up ...

Now the idea, apart from walking and having a snack is to take the last photos of the area that we need. We continue along Pikk Street until we meet the other door of the city and there we find other images that we love.

Returning to our hotel in Tallinn

We arrived at the Metropol Hotel wanting to rest, but also with that idea in our mind of the farewell of Snowy tallinn, something we never like and makes us feel that tingling in the stomach.
Now it's time to close your eyes ...
