The capital of Japan is immense, and when we say immense we mean that you cannot imagine how extensive it is ... And of course, planning a trip there can be a real challenge! Well, that's what we are for: we have prepared a post full of things to see and do in Tokyo. We know the city quite well, since we were lucky enough to spend a whole month there, so if you have doubts, we are all ears 😉 Without rolling up, here are the Things to see and do in Tokyo.

(This article is intended for those lucky people who can spend many days in the capital of Japan. If you have only 3-5 days to visit Tokyo, better check out this post with the 10 must-see places in this amazing city).

- Visit the Imperial Palace of Tokyo and its wonderful gardens. It is currently the official residence of the royal family and can be visited for free by booking your visit here.

- Flupa with the amount of people passing through the Shinjuku train station (more than 3.5 million people use it every day!) And flip even more to see that in all that chaos they never collide with each other: Shinjuku's is The most organized chaos in history. The truth is that this neighborhood is an essential part of the city, here we tell you everything to see and do in Shinjuku (coming soon).

- And speaking of stations ... the most beautiful is possibly Tokyo, it is worth a visit for its European-style architecture. Since we are there we can stroll through Tokyo Character Street, a corridor inside the station full of merchandising stores of the most beloved Japanese characters (I remain faithful to Sailor Moon!).

- Go to TeamLab Borderless, a digital art museum a-lu-ci-nan-te! Really, the entrance may seem expensive but it is quite an experience and, in addition, you can take incredible photons. Buy your tickets in advance here.

- If you like luxury you can not miss the shopping centers and stores of Ginza, one of the most chic and expensive areas in the world.

Find cheap accommodation in Tokyowith the search engine of Booking.com

- If ramen are your passion do not miss a dinner in Tokyo Ramen Street, do not forget to make noise while sipping: sluuuurp! By the way, check out this post with cheap restaurants where to eat in Tokyo

- We do not advise you to get up early to see the tuna auctions (they seemed like a total tourist to Rober) but a walk through the Tsukiji fish market is absolutely essential. Eye: read the post pq now the tuna auction takes place in another market.

- Eat tempura in a restaurant in Asakusa, one of the most amazing neighborhoods in the city (and the most traditional). We, between trip and trip, spend almost two months here and we can say that it is our Tokyo house 🙂 Here we tell you what to see and do in Asakusa (coming soon).

- Go see a play by Kabuki in the Kabuki-za theater. It is not cheap, but it is an experience.

- Relax in a park or garden in the city (there are many more than you expect). The best? For us they are: Koishikawa Korakuen, Rikugien and Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

- Traveling to South Korea without leaving Tokyo is easy: you just have to go to the Korean neighborhood of Shin-Okubo. Here you can find merchandising of your favorite K-pop groups or enjoy a Korean BBQ at a restaurant in the area. Although if you have plenty of time, consider a visit to the neighboring country: there are very cheap flights!

- Enjoy the hanami in Ueno Park. In the absence of hanami, don't worry: you can always see its pond, its museums, the Benten-do temple ... the zoo is not porfi, better travel responsibly, right? Another very cool place to enjoy sakura is the Nakameguro area.

- When you are in Ueno Park do not forget to send a postcard from the panda's mailbox ... will it arrive with a stamp of the nice black and white animal? (Yes, before you have to find a postcard, we did not find it easy task!).

- Take home the most curious souvenir: a plastic reproduction of your favorite Japanese dish, like those exhibited by restaurants. Where are they? On Kappabashi-dori street, in Asakusa. Another cool memory to take home is a picture of a purikura!

- Near Ueno Park is one of the most curious shopping streets in Tokyo: Ameyoko, full of shops with offers, restaurants and good atmosphere.

- Gorge on gyozas, the Japanese dumplings: mmm! And much better if they are accompanied by a very cool beer. Are you more of Asahi or Sapporo?

- Explore Ryogoku, Tokyo's sumo neighborhood, if you are lucky you can watch the morning workouts in a heya ... yes, get ready to get up early.

- And if you are even more lucky you can even enjoy some sumo tournament (we didn't have it… just for a few weeks arg!).

- Marvel at the neons, electronics stores, merchandising and maid cafes of Akihabara, the kingdom of otakus. One of the funniest things to do here is rent a cart and travel the streets dressed as the characters of Super Mario XD Here we tell you everything you can see and do in Akihabara (coming soon).

- If you are a girl and you have little interest in maid cafes (coffees with waitresses dressed as maids) you may be interested to know that there is an Akihabara for women: it is Otome-dori street with butler coffees that will take care of you as a queen.

- Stroll through Takeshita-dori, the most emblematic street of the curious Harajuku neighborhood, full of clothing stores, crepes and merchandising of famous Japanese. Here it is practically impossible not to meet any cosplay or gothic lolita.

- In Harajuku you will also find Yoyogi Park and the Meiji Shrine, one of the most famous in Tokyo next to Senso-ji.

- Go up to the Tokyo Sky Tree, the tallest building in the city, which dominates the Sumida neighborhood. If you want to buy tickets without a queue, check out these.

- Look for luck in some pachinko (if you understand how it goes and if you endure the hellish noise!).

- Or take a cheap (and useless) souvenir taken from a gashapon, the vending machines of plastic balls (full of merchandising of your idols).

- If you like amusement parks in Tokyo you will only have to choose: Disneyland Tokyo, DisneySea, Tokyo Dome City, Hello Kitty Pureland or the most vintage of all, the Hanayashiki Park in Asakusa.

- Go see a baseball match at Tokyo Dome: assured environment even if we don't fool ourselves ... baseball is a boring tad!

- Try a new experience and bathe naked in a seat or onsen in Tokyo. The most famous is the Oedo Onsen Monogatari, a kind of theme park set in the Edo period (admission is € 20), although the neighborhood onsen / sentos are much more authentic (and cheap!).

- Cross the Rainbow Bridge to go or return from Odaiba: from the best views of Tokyo.

- Although if we talk about views the best place (and free) is the Metropolitan Government Building, simply amazing!

Tired? Uff, look there are a few things to see and do in Tokyo!

- Explore the traditional Asakusa neighborhood in depth. Your star? The Senso-ji temple with its gigantic lantern hanging on the Kaminarimon door.

- Go crazy doing shopping in the Daiso chain: the vast majority of products cost only 100 yen (108 with the rates!)… Ideal for good, beautiful and cheap souvenirs.

- If you are a lover of the yakitori (the delicious Japanese skewers) do not miss a walk through Shinjuku Yakitori Yokocho.

- Discover what the Love Hotels are, no doubt a curious accommodation. Although for us, the essential experience in terms of accommodation ... are the capsule hotels! Here we tell you about our experience in Kyoto's Nine Hours (coming soon).

- Take a dip in the artificial beach of Odaiba, from where you can also see one of the best sunsets in the city.

- Odaiba is one of the most fashionable neighborhoods of the moment: here on Sundays you can see many cosplay ...

-… and in the absence of cosplay spend your yen in some of the best shopping centers in the city such as Venus Fort or Aqua City.

- Although our favorite is the DiverCity, not for its stores, but for the huge Gundam at the entrance.

- If you like light shows do not miss the one on the facade of the Fuji Tv building: very cool.

- You cannot leave Odaiba without taking a selfie with the Statue of Liberty, yes, yes, as I tell you: there is a replica of the statue of liberty in Tokyo!

- Take a look (or even check out outside hehe) at the Park Hyatt hotel, famous for going out in the movie 'Lost in Translation'.

- Cross the most famous and busy zebra crossing in the world: Shibuya where they say they can cross up to 3000 people at once!

- In shibuya, in addition, we cannot not take a picture of the statue of Hachiko, the puppy symbol of the neighborhood.

- Do not shop around Shibuya 109 and the occasional shopping center in the area.

- Take a picture under the Tokyo Tower, which looks like the distant (and reddish) cousin of the Eiffeil Tower.

- If you want to party do not miss the night of Roppongi, the most international neighborhood of the city, which seems never to sleep.

- Get lost among the thousands of neons of Shinjuku ... beware: you can see Godzilla leave the roof of the 'Shinjuku Toho' building.

- Attend a show of rockabillies (and hallucinate before their hairstyles!). They usually stay on Sundays, in Yoyogi Park.

- Discover Kabukicho, the red light district of Tokyo full of places for adults, bars and lots of life.

- Search (and find) girls wearing the traditional kimono: there are more than we expected, especially in the Asakusa area.

- Visit the Ghibli Museum (don't do like us and book your tickets in advance!).

- If your budget allows it you can make a cruise on the Sumida river between Asakusa and Odaiba.

- Go to a geek restaurant for dinner, such as the Akasaka Ninja Restaurant or the Robot Restaurant or the newly opened restaurant of Sailor Moon!

- Try one, two, ten matcha ice cream or the most crazy flavors: Japan is a paradise for lovers of gastrnomy.

- Buy something in a vending machine (they are everywhere and sell anything: it seems that there are some who even sell used panties: -S we, however, only buy drinks!).

- Walk along Nakamise Street, the pedestrian street that reaches Asakusa Senso-ji: always full of people and shops by day and practically desert at night.

- If it rains and you don't know what to do we give you an idea: go to the Edo-Tokyo Museum, a super interesting museum that will teach you a lot of things about Japan.

- Take the subway at rush hour to feel like a can of sardines.

- It is not the most famous temple but it is one of our favorites: the Zojoji Temple with magnificent views of the Tokyo Tower, we go tradition and modernity here go hand in hand.

- Take a selfie in front of the Asahi Super Dry building (yes, the beer!), Famous for its 'golden poo', the beer sculpture that looks like a golden poop (although technically represents fire).

- Try the sake and some dish to share in an authentic izakaya, the traditional Japanese taverns where people gather after a long day at work.

- If you like to sing go to a karaoke to challenge your friends, and if you don't like it go the same way to have a laugh.

- Dinner in one of the mini-restaurants with 3-4 seats of the GoldenGai in Shinjuku.

- Take an excursion: Nikko, Kamakura, Mount Fuji, Yokohama ... you just have to choose, although the capital is a lot of capital, huh? And the things to see and do in Tokyo are practically endless!

- Come back, Tokyo is a city that hooks!

Do you know more things to see and do in Tokyo?
