CHEAP ACCOMMODATION IN LONDON

We know, if you close your eyes and think of a accommodation in London, you will have two very different images in your head:

1. A luxury hotel with views over the Thames with waiters who bring you roasts to the room and Queen Elizabeth as a corridor neighbor.

2. A hotel surrounded by fog next to a cemetery with an ugly, shabby room and the everlasting dusty carpet.

Well, know that if you want, there are alternatives. We would not dislike the first option either, but if our economy is not to launch rockets we can find a decent, beautiful and cheap accommodation (Although we do not promise you that it will be without carpet!).

If you want more information, visit our LONDON TRAVEL GUIDE

There are some formulas that will allow you to stay cheap or even free, and without having to sleep under any bridge (although staying fried under the London Bridge has to have your tip!).

The first option we propose is one of our favorites: couchsurfing. If you are among those rare animals that still do not know what it is, do not worry that we tell you: couchsurfing is an initiative that allows you to “surf” a sofa, that is, someone who lives in a city X, in this case London, It makes available the sofa (or bed, or mattress, or floor) of your home to accommodate travelers from all over the world. It is a safe system (you have to create a profile and there is a referral system) and although TV and newspapers try to tell us otherwise, the world is full of good people and willing to help us!

We did it on several occasions and, apart from saving money, you earn a lot of things like making new friends, knowing a city by the hand of a local, living the city from within…

These platforms offer the possibility of renting a room in a private house or an entire apartment. It is a mix between couchsurfing and a hotel / hostel of a lifetime: you pay for a room but you are in a house with people who live there on a regular basis.

Unlike couchsurfing, in many cases there is no real contact with the hosts other than at the time of arrival, check in and if we cross them in the hallway. Having a payment in between, the feeling is more secure.

This alternative is perfect for those who want to use the house as a simple place to sleep and for those who prefer to go more to their roll. Also if you register with this link you can get € 35 discount on your first Airbnb reservation.

The most common option among travelers is to pay for a room in one of the many hotels and hostels in the city. There are many, many alternatives. The prices are usually high, although many times there are offers on several websites, we use booking.com the most. Later we give you a few options cheap accommodation in London.

It may seem an absurd idea but it is totally real! You can camp in the gardens of London houses, just like that. In exchange for sterling (in some cases, tent and sleeping bags are included!)

The main advice that we are going to give you is: be it couchsurfing, hotel, private house, flat or cheap hostel ... it is best that it be within zones 1 or 2. If you stay further, calculate that you will spend a lot on transportation and waste precious time to get to know London.

If accommodation in London is expensive, transportation is more expensive, so it is NOT worth saving a few pounds on accommodation if bus tickets and meters are going to be more expensive.

Obviously, it would be best to stay at the West End, next to the main monuments and attractions, but if you do not have a very generous budget you can look for accommodation here:

Central London: West End

It is the most popular area among travelers and perfect if you have more budget. Most of London's attractions are in this area, which in turn is divided into neighborhoods as famous as Soho, Westmister or Covent Garden, which we will talk about next.

♣ Westmister

It is the most visited area of London. There has concentrated all political and religious power during the history of England. Its main attractions are: Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, Westminster Palace and Big Ben. At its northern end is the famous Trafalgar Square.

♣ Covent Garden

Plagued with cafes, terraces, restaurants, pubs, exclusive shops, street performers ... this district is one of the liveliest in London. Its main attractions are the Mercado and the Plaza de Covent Garden.

♣ Soho

One of the favorite districts of visitors and Londoners themselves. It is characterized as the artistic and multicultural center of London and where the nightlife is concentrated. Highlights: Old Compton Street, its main street and the popular Chinatown.

Fair Mayfair

One of the most stately and expensive areas of London and considered the commercial heart of the city. In its ends we find the Piccadilly Circus square and the Hyde Park park.

♣ Bloombury

Traditionally it has been the residence of artists, writers and thinkers. How could it be otherwise, in this district we find the British Museum and the London University.

West London

It is a good place to find cheaper accommodation, while still being close to the center. Some neighborhoods like Notting Hill or Chelsea are also very interesting.

♣ Kensington

An elegant area full of 19th-century Victorian mansions, some of them home to embassies around the world.

♣ Notting Hill

A small neighborhood north of Kensington famous for the movie that bears his name. In this neighborhood is the Portobello Market.

♣ Paddington

A central neighborhood west of Westmister. You probably end up passing through its central station, as it is one of the most important branches of transport in the city.

♣ Chelsea

What was a small town on the banks of the River Tamesis today is a London neighborhood full of art galleries, antique shops and the occasional celebrity residence.

♣ Knighsbridge

One of the most exclusive areas of London and where renowned stores are concentrated, for example Harrod's is located here.

Other areas of London

Do not rule out other areas of London, as you can find good offers of accommodation a step away from the center.

♣ Camden (North)

Of alternative atmosphere and transgressive spirit. The Camden Market is one of the unavoidable visits on your trip to London.

♣ Islington (North)

It is a tad far from the center but the area has a bohemian charm: vintage businesses, modern and elegant pubs and lots of life.

♣ Shoreditch / Brick Lane (East)

It is one of the most fashionable and lively neighborhoods of the moment, full of cafes, shops, bars and markets. No doubt a perfect area for those who follow the trends.

♣ The City (East)

It is the financial heart of the city and that moves millions and millions of pounds a day. Paradoxically it is the oldest part of the city, where the first settlement was established. Here you can visit St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

♣ Holborn (East)

If the other is the financial center, this is the legal center. You can visit the Royal Courts of Justice, the John Soane museum and the Temple Church.

♣ South Bank (South)

The southern area, on the other side of the River Thames and around the Waterloo station. It was badly damaged in the bombings of the II GM, leaving only one building standing: the Royal Festival Hall. In this area we find the London Eye, the famous London ferris wheel and the Tate Modern art gallery.

♣ Southwark (South)

South of The City, crossing the Tamesis, it has become one of the most entertaining areas of London. There are very interesting cheap accommodation options.

Now we are going to give you a few cheap accommodation options in London, so you can save a few pounds and low cost travel:

Private double rooms

One way to get better accommodations in private rooms is if we give up having the bathroom in the room and having it shared outside with other rooms. It is true that you always fancy an exclusive bathroom ... but in places like London that is almost a luxury!

♣ Manor Hotel

It is a simple hotel, but good value for money, clean and well located next to Earls Court. The area has atmosphere but is quiet and not far from central London by subway. It also includes breakfast!

♣ Notting Hill Gate Hotel

It is located on a beautiful street in the Notting Hill neighborhood, with many options for restaurants and fast foods. Very close to the Portobello Market and Hyde Park. The hotel is basic but perfect as a base for a trip to London. Breakfast included (but few tables to take it).

♣ 23

A cozy place, 5 minutes from the West Kensington stop, with easy access to central London. The room has a private bathroom!

♣ Mina House Hotel

Hotel unpretentious but with everything necessary to become our ideal base. It has a private bathroom, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, etc. It is just a 2-minute walk from Paddington Station and a step away from Hyde Park. An excellent low cost option in London.

♣ The Paramount Hotel

A little hotel similar to the previous one, without great expectations but with kettle, iron and dryer in the room. In addition to private bathroom! Near Earl's Court.

♣ Pax Lodge Hostel

This accommodation is far from the center, but the area is quiet and beautiful. If you want to enjoy some quiet days in the capital of England, you may have to consider this place as a base.

♣ The Armitage

It is a remodeled house in south London. It has rooms with shared bathroom, a study and rooms with private bathroom.

♣ Monopoly Accommodations

Similar to the previous one, it is a newly renovated and very recently shared flat. The location is correct, five minutes from Liverpool Street station. Very clean everything.

♣ Palmers Lodge Hillspring At Willesden Green

The option of a double room with private bathroom is very very interesting. The price is reduced for what it offers: a family place with a good atmosphere and quiet. Besides being a hostel you have common areas such as the kitchen. By the way, it has buffet breakfast included. The worst thing is that there is a retired tad, although with transport nearby.

♣ Central London Budget Hotel

It is a somewhat outdated basic hotel but a good option to explore London. It is located next to Hyde Park and about 5 minutes from Paddington Station. It has rooms with shared bathroom and a little more expensive with private bathroom.

♣ Meridiana Hotel

Excellent value for money at this hotel, which is 100 meters from King's Cross Station, a communication hub where several subway lines pass, including Picadilly line to the center and the airport.

♣ LSE Carr-Saunders Hall

It is a student residence although it has rooms for tourists. It is a very new place, clean and with very good vibes. The best is its location, very central. Also breakfast is excellent! One of our favorites.

♣ George Hotel

A little hotel in a typical English house. Its rooms are comfortable and its English breakfast is great. It is located in the heart of Bloomsbury, a short distance from the stations of St. Pancras.

Apartments and studios

♣ Studios2Let - North Gower

They are studies not too big but well arranged, with everything you need. Located in a quiet and safe neighborhood next to Euston Station. Perfect for those who want to cook and have some independence at a good price.

♣ Talipot Apartments Notting Hill

An excellent option! Newly renovated apartments with new furniture and well equipped kitchen. The service is excellent and the beautiful area is 900 meters from the Portobello Road market. Definitely one of our favorites!

Hostels: bunk bed in shared room

♣ SoHostel

A modern hostel with a perfect location, in the center of the Soho neighborhood, in the West End. It is not the cheapest hostel in London but it is worth it for its quality and position.

♣ YHA London Central

Another hostel in central London with good prices. It is not one of the prettiest but it has a good quality, price, location.

♣ Astor Victoria Hostel

Interesting hostel located very central, a few steps from Victoria station (perfectly connected by bus with airports). Astor is a chain with several cheap hostels in London, another one in the Paddington area is the Astor Queensway Hostel.

♣ PubLove @ The White Ferry, Victoria

Another hostel in this area of Victoria with breakfast included and affordable prices (although its triple bunk beds may not be to your liking). Basic but good option. It belongs to the PubLove chain, another of its hostels that we can recommend is the PubLove @ The Exmouth Arms, Euston.

♣ The Phoenix Hostel

It is a basic hostel but with very good prices a step away from Paddington station, so transportation to and from London is easy. A quiet place with attentive staff. For 2 pounds you have a good breakfast.

♣ Clink261 Hostel

In the King's Cross area is this wonderful hostel. Each bunk has its own light and USB connection. In addition, its location makes moving around London very simple. And you know, if you choose the 18-bunk room, take the earplugs! There are other interesting hostels in the same chain such as the Clink78 Hostel.

♣ Wombats City Hostel London

Although something is far from the center, this modern hostel is a real gem! It is a few minutes walk from the Tower Bridge and well connected to the center. If you stay here you will probably want to repeat.

♣ The Dictionary Hostel, Shoreditch

If Shoreditch's hipster hipster is cool, this is your hostel. With that modern and innovative touch, you will find your personal paradise.

♣ Safestay Holland Park

This hostel, unlike the previous one, is perfect for those who enjoy nature: it is located in Holland Park, in an old renovated building with gardens and all very cool! We love!

♣ St Christopher's Inn Camden

We leave you another chain of important hostels, the St Christopher's Inn. This is specifically located in the lively neighborhood of Camden, but you can look at St Christopher's Liverpool Street or St Christopher's Inn Village - London Bridge.
