Today we are going to sweep home. Really huh? We just cleaned the floor remembering our golden past as housekeepers. But what I was going. Today we are going to sweep back home and we will take you to discover the Italian region where I, Lety, was born: the Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Do not worry if you never heard of it, in fact many Italians have no idea where it is exactly or what it is. You know, Italians: pizza, pasta, Rome, Venezia and bunga bunga. More or less. But for you to know, the Friuli is in northeastern Italy and looks so beautiful:

The reality is that we are not famous like Tuscany, like Sicily or like Apulia (Apulia sounds fatal, Puglia jolin, Puglia !, but if you give us a chance we will show you that we are a destination. To get warm we will give you 10 reasons to travel to Friuli Venezia Giulia.

1. THE FOOD

We could sum it up in one word: frico!

  • F: Fantastically fantastic.
  • A: I really shudder if I think I won't be able to eat it for a while.
  • I: of impossible not to want it.
  • C: cholesterol * hey, nobody is perfect *.
  • O: Ohhhh my god, I want another ration!).

The frico is a wonder that is prepared with potatoes, onions and Montasio cheese. Ohhh, Frico how rich you are.

Yes, the photo is not wonderful but I am about to eat it anyway.

But beware: not only frico feeds the friulan. We eat too montasio cheese, cjarsóns, brovade e muset, gubana, esse di Raveo, polenta and many more rich things. And we reiterate: frico. That if in ancient times they decided that the circle is the perfect way they have discovered it by eating cold.

2. THE HAM

Surely at this point in the article my mother will already be writing me more pissed off than Holyfield, when Tyson took a bite in her ear, for forgetting the San Daniele ham.Woman of little faith! The ham deserves a separate capitulillo. And if you're from Parma (someone reads us from Parma? I don't believe it ...) cover your ears: the best ham in Italy is eaten in San Daniele del Friuli. (Saint Denêl for friends).

In June, one of the most famous fairs in Friuli is scheduled: Aria di Festa, where thousands of people gather every year to binge on good ham. Refrain vegetarians.

3. THE WINE

The friulano likes to eat, but drinking ahhh, drinking loves it. And the enófilo tourist will be more than happy in friulanas earth. There is red wines (Merlot, Refosco, Pinot nero, Cabernet, Schioppettino ...), whites (Verduzzo, Pinot Bianco, Pinot grigio, Piccolit, Sauvignon, Ribolla ...) and my favorite: the Ramandolo, sweet and delicious. Chin Chin!

4. THE SEA

I already imagine my friends from Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily: "tss, we have the beautiful sea!" Already, but you don't have to be racist: color is not everything. We may not have beaches with turquoise waters (eye that in Trieste there are some cool beaches), but we have to Lignano with his beach party mokambo, Terrazza Mare, the ice cream shop that greets you with a “buongiorgio” and the 80-year-old German women topless: come on, the fun is never lacking.

And then there is Grade. When I was little, I was totally OUT: it was the sea of the old (there are hot springs) and the boring (there is not much nightlife). Today, on the contrary, I really like Grado: the big fault is the old age of the historic center that reminds us a lot of that of Venice, and I wouldn't say no to a day of pampering in the hot springs. Word of old chocha!

5. IL TAGLIAMENTO

The Friulian Caribbean. Well, a somewhat cool Caribbean since when you enter the water it receives you with a temperature similar to the lakes of Finnish Lapland. However, as soon as your body temperature approaches the state of hypothermia you will enjoy it a lot: the Tagliamento river is the longest and most beautiful in the Friuli and its waters are crystal clear and beautiful. And if not, tell you Rober.

If the waters of the Tagliamento are too hot for you, we also have several alpine lakes: blue, green and very fresh. My favorites are Lake Cavazzo, Cornino and Sauris.

6. THE MOUNTAIN

The villages of the Friulian mountains seem to be drawn with watercolors, they are so beautiful that they could get caught in those balls of water and snow ... I love them. To skate in Pontebbago camping to Collina, walk around Sauris between wooden houses and the perfume of the speck * mmm! *, the green of Raveo and the great ones Friulan Dolomites, the Julian Alps and the Meat Alps. If you like the mountain, Friuli is your place!

7. THE CITIES

I studied 5 years in Udine, so I have a special affection for him. It is a city without pretensions but very flirtatious: it is a bit like that simple girl next door, you do not fall in love with the first look, it conquers you little by little with its simplicity. Trieste, on the contrary, is the guapetona of the group. The one that walks down the street and makes you think that you can never be with one like that. Exaggerated and majestic, just like its wind: the bora. Trieste is the least Italian city in Italy and is definitely worth a visit.

Then there are Pordenone, with its historic center full of yellow and reddish houses, a good place to stay in one of its hotels such as Hotel Santin, and Gorizia, dominated by the castle that winks at Slovenia, just around the corner. Literally huh!

8. THE PEOPLES

You know: dimensions do not always count, so let us advise you not to miss, for nothing in the world, a return to the towns of Friuli, their true treasure. This Aquileia, one of the most important Roman cities, where you can see historical remains and impressive mosaics.

This Cividale, a town of longobard origin famous for the Devil's Bridge, or Palmanova, a town with a polygonal plan that looks like a star with 9 points, San Daniele with its hams and a delicious historical center and…

Fagagna, my town XD Full of storks, with spectacular cheese, hills on all sides and one of the best sunsets in the world: the one you can enjoy from the top of the castle hill. Hey, watch out, what Fagagna is one of the 100 most beautiful villages in Italy, with certificate and all XD

9. SAGRE YOU

God save the sagre. These town parties They are one of the best inventions in history, no doubt. There is that of ham, that of donkeys, that of frogs. Then that of the frico, the cottage cheese, the trout, the chorizo, the snails, the beer, the apples, the geese, the strawberries, the wine ... and then there is Friuli DOC. Friuli DOC, the biggest party in Friuli, is a bit like Forrest Gump's mom's chocolate box: you never know what you're going to play. But one thing is clear: the next morning you will have a hangover, although Jolin, it will have been worth it.

I don't have a half picture of sagras. Well I have but I also have a reputation (?). If you want to see one come to Friuli and I invite you to a beer.

10. THE FRIULANS

We, the Friulans, are a bit like the can man of the Wizard of Oz. It is not our fault. We are border people, somewhat cold, accustomed to being strong and hardworking, especially the generation that experienced the terrible earthquake of '76 ...

Sara, a very wise friend who once, looking at a potato chip, released that her heart was like her: broken in half, she also told me that I was like a Ferrero Roché: hard outside and tender inside (now that I think of it inside) is the nut then I would be hard, tender, hard ... but good). The point is that the Friulans are all Ferrero Roché.

And going back to the can man… do you know what helps us to be warmer? A good glass of Merlot! Also, when we speak our language (yes, in Friuli we have an official language XD) We are very, very, very exotic. Are you going to miss it?

* The photos, with the exception of Rober dying of cold in the Tagliamento and the collage are from Shutterstock
