COPENHAGEN: LET YOURSELF BE SOUGHT TOO WELL

It sounds too good to get carried away.
Play at random,
never know where you can end ...
or start

We only knew that we would leave on February 5 at 08.30 in the morning and that at the destination we were expected between 0 and 2 degrees of temperature. Nothing else. No idea where we were going to celebrate Lety's 32nd birthday. Of course, by logic we discarded the Caribbean, and another clue was that the destination was European.

The Wowtrip boys have it well assembled: a surprise trip it's a very good idea. Very good.

For our part, we miraculously managed to endure the desire to take a look at the flights that left at 08.30. We also overcome the impulse to look at the weather forecasts for half of Europe. What we did not get was to cover the boy's mouth (nice, by the way), which took us from the parking lot to the airport:

"So you come back Wednesday, at 15.30, from Copenhagen, right ?!"

SURPRISE!

We had no idea what would await us in Copenhagen, no idea. Well, we knew something about canals with colored houses, about the statue of the Little Mermaid, of the cold. But nothing more. And here goes a spoiler: the first impression was good, and the last one too. But let's go in parts.

Just leave the central station of the city we went to the hotel and it seems that things are going well: we just have a Lidl next door! So we take advantage and plunder the bakery area. We already told you that Copenhagen is an expensive city, right? Do not? Well that: it's veneer, like the rest of northern Europe! Peeeero, as always there are ways to travel cheap ... we'll tell you 😉

After check-in, we slap the buns, put on socks, leggins, two t-shirts, a sweatshirt, scarf, sweater and coat, we went out without too much physical mobility, but very warm! The goal of the day is only one: wander through the capital of Denmark and to be friends with her, which was not difficult.

Copenhagen is like one of those glass balls with artificial snow, only here the snow is true. Their little houses are short stories, pastel colors, large windows and stone and brick facades, and we feel like spending a little time here, writing and walking. Housesitting? Who knows!

Strøget, the pedestrian zone that crosses the historic center is pleasant, but we decided to turn aside and get lost in the alleys that open on both sides, full of parked bikes and showcases of designer shops, clothing and antiques. Sometimes we get into the courtyard of a building. Frosty snow flakes fall from the sky but nobody seems to notice, not even the flowers, that continue to live their eternal spring by running cold through the lining of the pistil.

A woman greets her grandchildren from the window of a yellow house and everyone has blue or green eyes. The only brown are my eyes, the bricks of the churches, the Charlottemborg Tower, the Round Tower, the chocolate and the coke. Also the wood of the boats, the trunks of the trees and the entrance of the Tivoli -the amusement park of the city, one of the oldest in Europe that, jo, opens in April-. But brown eyes, the righteous, and it seems that the Danes have the Baltic even in their eyes.

We arrive at Nyhavn Channel, one of the most famous and emblematic places of the city and we soon understand the reason: the reflection of their houses in the cold and transparent waters of the canal is authentic poetry. It is curious to think that this much-sought-after site today was one of the city's slightest neighborhoods in the past: here you could find the worst bars in Copenhagen, frequented by fishermen, sailors and prostitutes. If in the past you had to be careful in case someone put a knife in you, today you have to be careful in case what you get stuck is an exorbitant account, and that is that the restaurants in the area seem to be posh, or well ... they ask. Yes, yes, there is a restaurant called that. At least they are clear.

People say that Hans Christian Andersen, the father of The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, Pulgarcita and The Little Cerillera, among others, lived in 3 different houses on the canal and that today every April 2, anniversary of his birth, a somewhat flat Danish walks through Nyhavn Dressed like him Nyhavn also inspired Vetusta Morla and it’s impossible not to notice how “the current shows the way to the sea ... ”.

If Nyhavn is elegance, beauty and tranquility, Christiania it's the other side of the coin: it's the Copenhagen rebel boy, a place full of murals, leather jackets and bans? The fair! Christiania is what you don't expect to find in a "serious" and "traditional" city like Copenhagen. Well, it comes as a surprise: it is a partially self-governed community, full of peculiar houses on the banks of the “beach” and famous for having a street, the “Pusher Street"Where you can buy soft drugs (yes, if you can take pictures, the sellers will not be anything soft). Curious, without a doubt.

Not too far from there are the Copenhagen Opera and Papirøen (Paper Island) that houses inside a very cool street food market where Rober ate a delicious Moroccan sandwich and I had a pizza, of course.

But the surprises do not end here: the next day we were waiting for other equally interesting stops, such as Rosenborg Palace, an architectural beauty, the Amalienborg Palace, house (and piece house!) of the Danish monarchy and its nearby Marble Church, or the Royal Theatre, although it was under construction, the majestic facade could be intuited.

Although if there is a site, more than others, with which Copenhagen is identified is the little mermaid statue. Here we are going to open a parenthesis ... apparently European statues are not too lucky. Do you remember when we talked about Michelangelo's David and the worst job in the world? Well, the Little Mermaid is her companion of fatiguitas: it was not enough to give up herself to be able to have legs and marry her love and that he would end up abandoning her. No. In addition, throughout its years of existence and hopes everything happened to him: they cut off his head, then an arm, painted it red, put dynamite on it, covered it with a burqa, decapitated it again and even put the white sheet of the Ku Klux Klan. Many are disappointed there because of the size of the statue (measuring 1.25 cm) but what do they want, a Little Mermaid-Whale? It will be that, as neither of us are giants, we have become friends with her, we found it very beautiful.

And speaking of pretty, we would have eaten a nice whole, but seeing the size of the smorrebrod (the typical toast of Denmark) of the little where we thought we would eat, we changed plans ... It turns out that Copenhagen, apart from being one of the most cities ecofriendly (it's full of green spaces, there are more bikes than cars ...) it's also one of the cities in the world with more Michelin-starred restaurants. That said and considering that my birthday was a good occasion, we decided… to go to a cheap Greek buffet. What more than Michelin stars are we from michelines!

The trip to Copenhagen was probably the least organized, planned and planned trip in our history, we were looking forward to making some more visit like the castles of Frederiksborg and Kronborg castles, but it was a pass: in the end the Vetusta Morla had totally reason and is that "It sounds too good to get carried away. Playing randomly, never knowing where you can end… or start ”
