I was preparing a post about the best dishes of Malaysia and was obviously going to include the roti. Roti is one of the most famous, cheap and rich dishes of Malaysia.

What is the problem? That while I was writing I realized that the rotis (note the plural) deserve a post enterito! Otherwise it would be like preparing a post about the best Italian food and recommend eating pasta ... very good but ... which one?

Rotis there are many, and very good and as we do not want you to be pigeonholed in the roti canai or in the famous among the roti tourists of banana and chocolate, here goes a list with the rotis that you should not miss

WAIT FOR A SECOND ... ROTI WHAT?

Sorry, we are so excited about our post-pro-roti that we haven't even told you what it is: rotis could be defined as Malaysian pancakes ... they are ball doughs that are prepared by stretching them, throwing them in the air and finally cooking them on an iron .

You can usually eat them in Malaysian coffee shops (kopitiam) although it is not uncommon to find them also in Indian restaurants.

THE HOLY TRINITY

Last year, when I traveled alone in Malaysia, every morning they prepared a different roti and after trying a few I have no doubts, these are the 3 rotis that you should try yes or yes: roti canai, roti boom and roti tisu.

ROTI CANAI

The original, flat and delicious, that gets wet in curry, usually lentils, (dhal) or chicken.

ROTI BOOM

More round and plump, bathed in sugar and butter.

ROTI TISU

Crispy cone-shaped roti, it is sweet and sugar and condensed milk are added.

MORE ROTIS

But the rotis don't end here: there are many more to try like:

  • the roti telur (egg)
  • roti bawang (onion)
  • roti pisang (banana)
  • roti sayur (of spinach) ...

So you know: if you travel to Malaysia do not forget to try the rotis 🙂

Recommendation: if you take a sweet roti do not forget to accompany it for Teh tarik, the delicious tea with condensed milk that is undoubtedly the national drink (and Rober's favorite drink). If instead the roti is salty nothing better to accompany it than the lemon tea with ice How well they prepare in Malaysia.

Here you have other typical dishes of Malaysian food!
