Day 12: GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK - ROUTE 66 - HOUVER PRESA - LAS VEGAS

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Today we got up early, excited with what will be our first helicopter flight and nothing better to premiere what to do in the Grand Canyon of the Colorado.
We have had breakfast and we have doubted for a few minutes between going back to the Grand Canyon to see sunrise or go directly to the Papillon agency. In the end we have decided to go for another coffee and go directly to the agency to do the helicopter tour flying over the Grand Canyon, one of the best excursions in Las Vegas, and not risk not arriving on time.

The Grand Canyon by Helicopter

The flight has been delayed a bit for technical reasons, but we have to say that it was very worthwhile. It is a totally recommendable experience that allows you to have a totally different perspective of one of the wonders of nature as is the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon by Helicopter

After this incredible experience we have made our way to Las Vegas, which will be our first big city on this trip along the West Coast of the United States.
On way to the city where everything is possible we deviate to make a piece of the famous Route 66 by car to Las Vegas and see some of these towns that were part of this historic route, which crossed the entire United States.

We have only missed one stop on this historic route to know that at some time or another we will make it completely. We enjoy each of the details that we are finding and taking advantage of the bars so characteristic of the Route 66, we took the opportunity to stop at one of them and eat some hamburgers.

Other stop we make before arriving in Las Vegas is at Hoover Dam, where some scenes from the Superman movie were shot. A good option to visit the dam is to book this excursion from Las Vegas in Spanish with pick up at your hotel.

After another hour of travel we have begun to see the lights that announce that we were arriving in one of the best known cities in the world: Las Vegas.
Emotion is the only word I can think of to describe what we feel as we go through the streets that give entrance to the city.

These days we will stay at the Luxor Hotel, where after installing we discover that it does not have the most ideal location since it is at one of the ends of The Strip, one of the essential places to visit in Las Vegas, although we have to say that the Arrival has been "triumphant" even with a car park.

After leaving the rental car in the United States and luggage at the hotel we went for a walk and thus have the first contact with the city of the game.

Lights, more lights and many more lights ... and all if in the United States everything is big, here it is much more.
We are impressed and we begin to think that 2 and a half days will be a short time to see everything we have before our eyes.
One of the first things we do on our walk is to go see one of the free shows to see in Las Vegas and one of the most famous, the Bellagio Fountains.
We will repeat this 4 or 5 times in our stay in Las Vegas and we have to say that it is the best free show we have seen in the city.
About 1 in the morning, after dinner in a Venetian Hotel Italian Restaurant and take a good walk, we arrive again at Luxor, animated, thinking about the next day and everything we have left to see in Las Vegas.
