The capital of Thailand is a paradise for gluttons like us: among its streets we will find hundreds and hundreds of stalls that prepare tasty and cheap dishes. Hallelujah! Pad thai, fried rice, mango sticky rice ... But not only that, Bangkok has a few surprises for travelers and today we will take you to discover a few in our Ultimate guide to restaurants in Bangkok.

We have visited Bangkok 5, 6, 7 times - the truth is that we lost count - and each time we went with a new favorite restaurant targeted. This guide is intended for those who are going to be (at least) 3 days in the city (or for those who in one day can eat muuuucho). Anyway, if you are going to be less time do not worry ... surely among our proposals you will find YOUR favorite place 😉

  • Take a tour of the migrationology.com blog, its author, Mark, resides in Bangkok and is one of the most foodies foodies out there.
  • Discover which Thai dishes you can not miss on your trip.
  • And something else about the cuisine of the country of smiles.
  • If you screw up just thinking about eating in street stalls, check out without crapping and you won't have to spend more time in the bathroom than on the beaches and temples.
  • Learn these two words "mai phet" They mean "not spicy”And believe us, if the spicy one does not go with you you will need them.

So, directly newcomer, without even thinking much or where or when, leave your backpack in the accommodation and throw yourself into the streets guiding you by your instinct and your nose. The street thai pad is the baptism of a foodie in Bangkok, the time will come to discover which is the best in the city, for now just enjoy 'your first time'.

Chinatown (Yaowarat) It is one of the most interesting neighborhoods in Bangkok, and not only for its temples and markets ... food is practically everywhere and there are a few essential stops that we advise you to make:

  • Walk around Yaowarat road and by Charoen Krung road, the two main streets of Chinatown. Here you will begin to enjoy (or suffer) the atmosphere of this frantic, colorful and noisy neighborhood. You can snack on one of the hundreds of street stalls before…
  • Try a delicious oyster omelet (70 baht) in “Nai Mong Today Tod”Or…
  • One of the best thai curry from all over Bangkok. It is located in a street stand, the “Khao Kaeng Jake Puey ”. We recommend you try Kaeng kari, a little spicy curry that is prepared with chicken, coconut milk and spices. Sensational! It is also very peculiar: the tables shine because of their absence and you will have to sit on a plastic stool, one of those that love so much in Asia, on the sidewalks to taste your plate, accompanied by a lot of Thai Chinese who do what own.
  • And finally it reaches the “Yi Sheng Coffeeshop”, To know one of the last authentic chinese coffee shops that has been serving coffees since 1927. And authentic means basically that you will be surrounded by old men playing cards and that you can only order coffee with condensed milk, no cappuccino, frapuccino and the like. Ah, try also a kaya tostIt costs 25 baht, like coffee and is very tasty.

Khao San Road is the quintessential backpacking street (and has nothing from San-ta, as you will know): when you walk along it you will cross with hundreds of travelers arriving from anywhere in the world (although strangely everyone starts to look like when they pass few days in the area). This street, although we could well say area since the nearby streets (especially Khao Rambuttri), is famous for its party and for its bars where you can catch a good hangover for a few bahts. Well, the few bahts are relative ... we need little, but if your liver is well trained, you may have to pay more than coins.

What we are going to: not only of buckets, Chiang and Muay Thai live Khao San Road, Khao Rambuttri and the streets that surround them. The most slippery neighborhood in Bangkok is also a paradise for those of us who love the street food: there are posts of pad thai, skewers, crepes, buffets where to try this and that. In addition you will find many restaurants (especially by Khao Rambuttri) where you can eat well at very affordable children, here are a few options:

  • Gecko BarGreat for breakfast (yogurt with muesli and fruit costs 30 baht) and / or eat something fast. By the way, right in front there is a very good street stand, so if the Gecko is full you will not have to search much.
  • PEEPS Thai Eatery, a clean, careful restaurant, with very rich food and several veg-friendly options.
  • Roti MatabaIf you are a fan of the roti (the pancakes so typical of Malaysia), you should try this place. It is not pretty or glamorous but the rotis are very good and you can accompany them for quite tasty curries. There are also sweet options.
  • Joke Ponchana by Mr. Lek, a street bar that we discovered on our last trip to Bangkok. The most curious thing is its chef, a character who will not hesitate to claim a video while cooking or convince you that his is the best Thai pad in the city. The dishes are very rich. We tried the massaman curry (100 baht), the Thai prawn pad (80 baht) and the morning glory (60 baht). Highly recommended. It is located in samsen soi 2 (at a crossroads).

The best Indian food in Bangkok is possibly the one you find in “Toney”, Yes, do not expect a lovely place because it is not pretty-pretty. But if you want to eat fancy… it's your place: prepare delicious and cheap curries (veg and not veg). Prices from 30-150 baht. It is located in Pahurat, the Little India of Bangkok.

Victory Monument is one of the main transport hub of Bangkok, come on, which is full of people almost all day. That means something: food stalls are not lacking, you know where there are Thai people there is food, that's how it is 🙂

You can follow your instinct (or better, your nose) and eat at the street stall that most attracts your attention or follow our advice and put on your boots eating the famous boat noodles (kuay teow reua). Boat noodles? Yes, boat noodles. These are small bowls of soup of noodles that the Thais used to eat in their boats (and they are small so that, in case of choppy sea, the soup did not come out). Nowadays they don't eat on boats anymore, but they keep on presenting them like this ... and it's very cool: they cost little (9-15 baht) and you can try several to see which one is your favorite!

Where to eat the best boat noodles in Bangkok? Just behind the obelisk of the Victory Monument in the alley, Sud Yod Kuay Teow Reua which is also known under the name of “Boat Noodle Alley" There are several small restaurants that prepare them and, given the low price of the dishes, we advise you to try a couple at each site.

  • To eat one of the best roasted ducks from all over Thailand: “Prachak Pet Yang Duck". Prices between 45-100 baht. He too "Thian Song Roast Duck”In the area of Wat Saket (Golden Mount).
  • A great and quite curious restaurant (view of the huge casserole of the entry) is the “Wattana Panich“, Where you can try a delicious dish of beef noodles (100baht), goat noodles (200 baht) or beef with rice.
  • Suda Restaurant”Is another good option to try good dishes of Thai food (the soup tom yam It is very tasty as well as chicken cooked in banana leaves). Prices around 120 baht.

The best Pad Thai is in “Thip Samai ”, a little restaurant always full of people ... of course. Eye, close Mondays. And one more fact, in addition to its star dish, try its orange juice, it's really delicious!

Markets are, for those of us who love food, as important as the great attractions of a city. Whenever we travel to a city we try to visit a market (to be able to be a authentic market, far from the tourist traps -very beautiful- but without soul). That's why we advise you to approach the Klong Toey Fresh Market, to lose you among its infinite stands of vegetables, fruit, meat, fish ... Another market is theNang Loeng Market, in a historic area of Bangkok, where you will find delicious dishes and a pleasant visit.

In the Sukhumvit area there is a kind of industrial building where huge quantities of barbecue fish at very affordable prices. The place has its charm, but will not give it a Michelin star because of its neatness. Although the important thing is that you eat well at good prices and this undoubtedly has it. It is at number 27 of Sukhumvit Rd and if you pass in front of it at night you will surely know that you are in the right place.

In each commercial center of Bangkok an important part is destined to the area of Food court. And we have to be honest: it is usually the part we like the most and the one we visited for the first or last time! For those who do not know, the Food Court is the “dining room”, an area where a lot of food stalls gather around a common area with tables and chairs, you choose the food you prefer that day (there is usually a variety almost infinite) and you sit down to enjoy it. The best thing is that if you are several you do not have to choose all of the same position, everyone who eats what they want!

Some of these food courts work with card, this means that you will have to go to the information booth and ask for one, reload it right there with an amount X and ask for food in the different positions paying with that card. At the end of the day, if you have a balance left over, you can go back to the same place where you got it to return it and get the remaining amount, easy, right?

Best of all is its great variety and prices!

... And so much eating then what happens ...
