Day 5: Pisa: Campo dei Miracoli, Plaza dei Cavalieri, Garibaldi Square, Solferino Bridge - Girona

Saturday, December 27, 2008

After finishing part of the trip yesterday with the best views of Florence, today it's time to see Pisa in one day, so it’s time to leave the La Pace hotel early in the direction of Campo dei Miracoli, where we were last night and where is the Duomo, the Baptistery and especially the famous tower of Pisa.
We cross Pisa on foot to Campo dei Miracoli, cross the Solferino bridge over the Arno river, with good visits to the colorful houses on its banks.
A good option to tour the city well and not miss the climb to the Tower is to book a guided tour in Spanish with entrance to the leaning tower.

Solferino Bridge

Way ofCampo dei Miracoli We pass through Garibaldi Square, with its famous statue in the center of the square.

The best tours and excursions in Pisa in Spanish

- Guided tour of Pisa
- Excursion to Florence by train

We are getting lost in the streets of Pisa until we reach the Cavalieri Square, where one of the most beautiful monuments of Pisa is located, the Palazzo della Carovana.

Palazzo della Carovana

In the same square is the Church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri, another place that you should not miss on a first trip to Florence and Pisa.

Piazza del Cavalieri

We arrive at Campo dei Miracoli, to visit the Pisa Tower first. The truth is that we came with some fear that there were no tickets left as only 30 people can enter at a time. In the end we are lucky and we get tickets for 12 noon, so we take advantage until the time comes making visits to the Duomo and the Baptistery. The Duomo of Pisa is a medieval cathedral dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin.

Campo dei Miracoli

This began to be built in 1064 by Buscheto and highlights its impressive facade, gray marble and white stone that was built by Rainaldo.

The Pisa Baptistery, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, faces the western end of the cathedral and is the largest baptistery in Italy.
An interesting way to know the history of this building is to book this guided tour in Spanish that includes the Cathedral and the Leaning Tower.

Pisa Baptistery

At this time we can also see the monumental cemetery that is in the northern limit of the square.
12 o'clock arrive and it's time to go to the door to access the bowels of the Leaning Tower, one of the essential places to see in Pisa.
To climb the tower and enjoy its views it is advisable to buy the ticket in advance, having a limited number of daily visits. You can also try your luck and go to the ticket office very soon, just in front of the Tower, so that they give you time to climb during that same day.

A good option for a similar price is to book this entrance to the Leaning Tower with which you will avoid the long lines of the tower and the cathedral, especially in high season.

Interior Tower of Pisa

The "Pendente Tower" was built in the year 1173 as a campanile of the Duomo and was made on a sandy ground, so it began to lean even before its construction was completed.
As a curiosity we will tell you that it was in this tower where Galileo Galilei carried out his experiments on the speed of falling of material objects, dropping them from the top of it.

Views from the Tower of Pisa

After almost an hour, we finished the visit and finished our tour of Pisa in one day walking around the city, before returning to the hotel in search of our bags to head to the airport to return home.
