Day 1: Girona - Genoa Airport - Pisa Airport - Florence

Tuesday, December 23, 2008

As we have been doing for a few years, again it is time to travel at Christmas time. Today in the afternoon we have a flight with Ryanair that will take us to Pisa, but due to the snowstorm of the last days in this area of Italy, the airport of Pisa is closed so without many explanations, if not any, we landed at the Genoa airport.
Give birth from Genoa airport to Florence They tell us on the plane that a Ryanair bus will take us to Pisa and from there we must take a train to Florence. So far everything is right, the bad thing is that time is passing and we do not see any Ryanair bus appear.
You can imagine with the face that we stay. At this time there is no open office of the company and many passengers choose to take a taxi to the city and spend the night in Genoa.
The problem is that we have the hotel in Florence and it is more than 3 hours away and it would cost us a taxi a donkey, so we prefer to wait a reasonable time, to see how the issue is being solved.

Seeing the time pass we opted with an Italian guy who also goes to Florence and another girl rent a car and leave it in Florence. With the things we have what to see in Florence And what time it is, we are not wasting time. When we arrive at the rental office they tell us that they only have high-end vehicles left. Logically there are many people who have rented a car before us and have been the most expensive.
The Italian boy is not willing to pay so much, so while we talk to see how to resolve the issue, they tell us that the Ryanair bus has just arrived at Genoa airport, after more than 2 hours of waiting.
On the way we take the opportunity to call the hotel in Florence, the Globus Hotel, which we will be late to avoid having any problems with check-in.

Recommended travel cards

Remember that in order not to pay commissions and always have the current change we recommend you use the N26 card to pay and the Bnext and Revolut cards to get money at the ATMs. They are the ones we use, They are free and will save you a lot.
You can find more information in this article about the best cards to travel without commissions.

The bus takes us to Pisa airport and from there we take a train to Florence. It is fortunate that in our trips we usually take hotels near the stations, something that for days like today, comes with pearls, since although we arrive very late to the city, once at the station, we only have to walk a few meters to find our hotel.
A good option is to book this transfer from Pisa airport to our hotel in Florence.
