Day 45: Paris - Barcelona. Trip summary: Best photos of Mexico

Today is the last day of the trip, in which after a brief stopover in Paris, which serves to charge energy with a coffee, we return to catch a flight to Barcelona, with which we end this incredible trip to Mexico In 45 days, of which we want to leave a summary of everything we have lived through those that are for us, the best photos of Mexico.

Mexico City
Gateway to our trip to Mexico for free, this city has been a surprise for us. Not only for the countless things to do in Mexico City, including the visit to the neighborhoods of Coyoacán and San Ángel, two places to visit in the DF, but also for the possibility of visiting the pyramids of Teotihuacán, one of the places more impressive than we have known on this trip, in addition to visiting Puebla, a city that welcomed us with open arms and showed us that Mexico is not only what we read in the newspapers.

Teotihuacan

San Miguel de Allende
We arrived in San Miguel de Allende with that doubt about the security in Mexico that the different media had transmitted to us.

We only needed a few minutes to realize that we were in one of the most beautiful cities in the country, where the streets and colorful houses gave us their best faces in each corner.
If you add that it is an incredibly photogenic city, the things to do in San Miguel de Allende multiply ...

San Miguel de Allende

Guanajuato
Walking slowly, without hurry, the tourist places of Guanajuato showed us how true the statement they made us when they arrived in the city: In Guanajuato everything is possible.

Guanajuato Best photos of Mexico

Known for the Alley of the Kiss, its curious Museum of the Mummies and the alleyways, this city is the perfect balm to spend a few days in more traditional Mexico.

Zacatecas
Without a doubt, one of the many surprises of the trip. Our arrival in the city was not exactly hopeful, since we had a somewhat gray perception, which stuck a thorn in us.
It lasted little, only one night. The next day, when we started to follow the list of things to do in Zacatecas that we had scheduled, we began to get lost in one of the most authentic cities of the entire trip.

Zacatecas

Without a doubt, Zacatecas gave us some of the best photos of Mexico during the trip.

Guadalajara
As it happened in Zacatecas, Guadalajara was not a love at first sight. But we have to confess that little by little, as he let us know her, he became part of our essentials in the country.
Going to Tonalá from Guadalajara and then walking through Tlaquepaque, were the best farewell we could have imagined.

Tlaquepaque Guadalajara

San Cristóbal de las Casas
Gateway to Chiapas, San Cristóbal de las Casas, or Sancris as it is known, was the place where we would have stayed several weeks as soon as we met him.
Although there are countless places that can be visited from the city, such as the Sumidero Canyon or San Juan Chamula, the countless things to do in San Cristóbal de las Casas, justify any trip to one of the essential places to visit in Mexico.

Palenque
Impossible to define with words the experience of visiting the archaeological site of Palenque.
We arrived early in the morning, looking for that solitude that gave us unforgettable moments in one of the most magical and incredible places in Chiapas.

Palenque

Yaxchilan and Bonampak
There is always a time when any traveler wants to feel like Indiana Jones. And saving the distances that can be with the film, this is how we felt on the tour to Yaxchilan and Bonampak from Palenque, two impressive enclosures, surrounded by jungle, in which we felt as if we had gone back in time.

Campeche
Campeche has been for us the gateway to the rental car route in Mexico that has led us to know the incredible area of Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatán, three places that have enamored us and that have shown us another face of Mexico that is not lived in the most capital cities.

Campeche Best photos of Mexico

Visiting the tourist places of Campeche was the beginning of our route and visiting Edzná from Campeche a last-minute change of plans, which allowed us to win practically one day, which we could take advantage of by visiting some other archaeological sites that left us speechless.

Calakmul
The first stop on the route by car was to visit Calakmul from Campeche, which they say is one of the most incredible archaeological sites, not only in Mexico, but in the world.
Although it is impressive, perhaps by visiting it at the end of the day, after a long drive, Calakmul left us with a somewhat bitter, since we have not just found that incredible point that we had read so much and had talked to us.

Calakmul

However, the possibility of knowing several archaeological sites in Campeche, on the way to Laguna Bacalar, such as Balamkú, Chicanná, Becán and Xpujil made this stage of the trip incredibly special, giving us some of the best photographs of Mexico.

Archeological sites of Campeche

Bacalar Lagoon
Laguna de Bacalar was perhaps one of the places that we found most emotions during the whole trip. Too touristy for our liking, he welcomed us with quite covered days, in which the incredible color of the water was practically not perceived.
But those first hours in Laguna de Bacalar gave way to a storm that after a few minutes surprised us with some of the best images of Mexico.

Puuc Route
We had high expectations at this stage of the trip, which was going to take us to Labná, Xlabpak, Sayil and Kabah, archaeological sites to see on the Puuc Route and that we have to say, exceeded any idea we could have imagined.

Sayil on the Puuc Route

Without a doubt, one of the most interesting routes in the country that ended with an incredible moment: visiting Uxmal in Yucatan, one of the most impressive places in Mexico, which we have to confess, left us speechless.

Celestun
We are not going to cheat you. We didn't have too many expectations on the Celestún tour in Yucatan. We would not know how to explain the reason, although this feeling was probably only caused by how little we like organized tours.
That is why the choice of hiring a private boat to do this tour was a success, being able to dedicate the time we wanted to the places that were for us more interesting and that gave us some of the best photos of Mexico, this time with the flamingos as protagonists.

Flamingos on the Celestún Tour

Route of the Convents
From Mérida, where we spent a few days, we made one of the Convents Route on the Yucatan Peninsula one of the days.
We have to say that despite being very interesting, it was the most loose of the whole trip, in which we believe we are mistaken including the cenotes of Cuzamá and leaving the archaeological site of Mayapan.

Chumayel Route of the Convents in the Yucatan Peninsula

This day he taught us again that in travel not all decisions have to be the right ones and that sometimes, despite that, you have to look for the positive side. In this case, stop visiting Mayapan will be one of the excuses to return to this area of the country.

Izamal
What can we say about Izamal that has not already been said? Probably nothing. Regardless of the countless things to do in Izamal, the possibility of strolling between streets and houses full of charm, totally yellow, is one of the most unforgettable experiences of this trip, so much that we regret not having spent a night in this place.

Izamal

Lizards River
The reason to reach this area of the country was none other than to do the Rio Lagartos tour, in which in addition to the possibility of seeing flamingos, we were approaching one of the most famous places in the area, which has become incredibly touristy thanks to social networks and that is none other than Las Coloradas, salt flats in which the pink color of water is the main attraction for tourists.

Río Lagartos in Yucatán

The truth is that the experience was very interesting, although Las Coloradas, which we visited three times looking for the best light to see its pink waters, was a reality slap, which taught us that not all the places we see on social networks and seem incredibly impressive, they really are.

Las Coloradas

After our experience, we have to say that if you want to see flamingos, we recommend you go to Celestún and if you want to see the pink waters of Las Coloradas, keep in mind that these only look good in the central hours of the day, when the sun is high and on days it does not rain or is very cloudy.

Chichen Itza
We knew that coming to Mexico and not visiting Chichen Itza in Yucatan, is like not having come to Mexico. So logically from Mérida, this was one of the essential visits that we could not miss.

Chichen Itza. Best photos of Mexico

Although we went early in the morning, being a few days of vacation, we were not few around the impressive Pyramid of Kukulkan, so the first moments in this wonder, were not as pleasant as we imagined. Although this was resolved as we entered the rest of the structures, less visited and that allowed us reconcile with Chichen Itza, taking us some of the best photos of Mexico and some moments we will never forget.

Valladolid Cenotes
Without a doubt, the route we took through some of the best cenotes in Valladolid in Yucatan was one of the best decisions of the trip.
Spending a full day to get to know the Xkeken, Samula Cenotes, Selva Maya Hacienda, Hubiku, Popcorn, Agua Dulce, Xca'anjaltun and Suytun gave us an unforgettable day, in which we felt incredibly small before these wonders of nature.

Cenote Xcanahaltun or Xca'anjaltun

Coba
Visiting the ruins of Cobá was another of the most incredible moments of the trip, not only because of the archaeological site as such, but because of the feeling that began to nest in our hearts, which reminded us, every few minutes, that this was going to be the penultimate site that we would visit on the trip.

Great Pyramid of Coba

Tulum
Tulum has given us unforgettable moments. Perhaps some of the best of this incredible trip such as visiting the ruins of Tulum, one of the places we most wanted to know and that exceeded any of the expectations we had.

Visit the ruins of Tulum

But not only do we get that image. We could also relax and enjoy some of the best beaches in Tulum, those that we thought before coming that only existed in travel catalogs and that this area of Mexico was in charge of teaching and showing us small sips.

Holbox
And Holbox, what can we say about this paradise that made it clear that places with magic still exist and that you just have to know how to find them.
Here we have spent the last week of this trip, remembering all the moments lived, while we tried to squeeze out the days that passed between all the things to see and do in Holbox that we had planned and the desire to remember every moment lived and keep it forever in our heart and our retinas.

Holbox

Holbox was the end and the beginning. The beginning of another dream. The beginning of our return to Mexico ...
