When planning a trip to Southeast Asia you will soon realize that to visit most of its countries you will need a visa. In this article we will tell you which visas for Southeast Asia You need and for which countries.

We will classify the countries of Southeast Asia into three different groups:

  • countries that do not need a visa,
  • countries with visa on arrival,
  • countries that need a visa before arrival.

Countries that do not need a visa

In this case, when you arrive at the land border or one of its airports, you will have to hand in your passport so that the customs agents will seal it, and that's it. You can be a limit of days, obviously, and if your intention is to stay beyond this limit, you will have to obtain a special visa, take care to proceed to the extension of it or leave the country and then re-enter.

Spaniards and other EU citizens do not need a previous visa for stays of less than 90 days.

Visa forIndonesia

Since June 2015, we Spaniards do not need a visa to enter Indonesia as tourists, for a maximum time of 30 days. If you want to extend your stay you will have to process the visa whose price is $ 35 upon arrival at the airport itself. The visa extension for another 30 days has the same price.

Visa forPhilippines

No visa is required for stays of up to 30 days. Of course, it is necessary to have a flight out of the country to be accepted. This requirement is common for many countries ... find out before traveling 🙂

Visa forMalaysia

We can stay in the country for up to 90 days, entering both by land and by air.

Visa forThailand

If we enter through an airport we can be up to a maximum of 30 days. If the entry is made by land, the maximum time is 15 days.

They will give us a stamp valid for 90 days, let's enter by air and by land.

From July 1, 2015, Spaniards do not need a visa for Vietnam, as long as the stay is up to a maximum of 15 days (including the day of arrival and departure) and is entered only once. For longer stays, a visa must be processed before going to the country, online.

Since you enjoy a 15-day permit, it takes two months to the next 15-day maximum stay.

Countries with visa on arrival “on arrival”

It can be processed directly both at airports and at border crossings. The time of stay is 30 days and the price is $ 30 (in both cases, although many try to scam you some extra dollars at the borders). You will need a photo.

To enter Laos both by land border and by an airport it is necessary that you process the visa upon arrival. The price is $ 35 and you will need two photos. The time of stay is 30 days.

Countries where you will have to process the visa before arrival

At the moment it is still necessary to process a visa before traveling to Myanmar. Although since 2014 it can be done online at the following link. It takes 5 days to process (you receive an e-mail that must be presented at the border) and the price is $ 50. It is valid for 3 months (that is, you have to travel in the next three months) and for stays no longer than 28 days. IMPORTANT: this visa is only valid to enter through one of these airports: Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw.

You can also apply for a Myanmar visa at one of their embassies in the world. We did it in the one in Kuala Lumpur.

It is not possible to process the visa at the border, although if you have the visa, you can access through border crossings with Thailand at:

  • Tachileik (Shan state) - Mae Sai (north of the Thai border).
  • Myawaddy (Kayin State) - Mae Sot (center of the Thai border).
  • Kawthoung (Tanintharyi Division) - Ranong-Kawthoung (south of the Thai border).

For stays of more than 15 days or several tickets you need to apply for a visa. There are visas of 1 or 3 months and with one or several entries. To process it you can do it in the following ways:

  • At the Vietnam embassy in Spain or at any of the Vietnam embassies in the world (we take it out in Sihanokville), for tickets both by airport and by land border crossings. The price is $ 45 and takes about 3 or 4 days. You need to fill out a form and submit a photo.
  • In some Vietnamese travel agency who process it online like myvietnamvisa, vietnam-visa or vietnam-immigration. Only for tickets to the country by airports. The prices are somewhat higher.
