Today we are going to talk about another ethnic restaurant in Barcelona that has enamored us, the “Mochica”, With his dishes he managed to transport us to the other side of the puddle: Peru! Some time ago we had a crazy desire to know this land so rich in culture, history, mysteries, lamas and alpacas (we love them, they are so handsome!). Although what we did not know is that in his great list of “the best” was the food: my mother, how delicious is the Peruvian gastronomy!

As soon as we arrived, our hostess Viviana told us a little about the origin of the Peruvian gastronomy: born from the fusion of traditional cuisine of ancient Peru with Spanish cuisine and Chinese influence, which makes it one of the most varied cuisines in the world. In addition the great diversity of the Peruvian territory gives an endless number of typical dishes of each area (and if all are as good as the ones we have tried, the day we step on Peru we will gain 15 kg! But we will enjoy as dwarfs!)

Come on, I know what you want is to see what we have eaten! And as each desire of yours is an order, there we go:

PISCO SOUR

The welcome could not be better: Jorky, the super nice waiter who attended us, prepared the famous Pisco Sour that is becoming so popular ... Pisco sour is a cocktail prepared with pisco (a type of grape brandy), juice of lemon, egg white, ice and a few drops of Angostura bitters. And it is originally from the city of the same name, in southern Peru. Very good, and we just finished a little "piripi" ... cheers!

INCA COLA & CANCHA SERRANA

I am very cocacolera. But since I learned of the existence of a squeaky yellow drink that tasted like chewing gum, mmm I wanted to try it and finally the occasion came: how good !!! As a curiosity to say that 1996 CocaCola & co bought 49% of the brand since it could not get hold of the local market: Peruvians are faithful to the Inca Cola generation after generation! And since you can't have a drink without snack, they have brought us a very typical snack: the mountain court! It is roasted corn that is prepared over low heat with butter or oil. We had never tried it and the truth is that it is very good!

THE CEVICHE

Ceviche for Peruvians is like pizza for Italians or potato omelette for Spaniards! It is a dish so dear that it has been named Cultural Patrimony of the Nation and now we understand why: it is to suck your fingers! It is prepared by marinating pieces of raw fish in lemon juice, chili and salt, and is prepared with cilantro, onion. The best thing is the final juice, don't leave it on the plate! Slurp! The original recipe is usually quite spicy, but we were put the spicy sauce aside.

HOT SAUCE

As soon as they brought us a chili sauce, they told us that it was a little bit itchy, but the curiosity was too strong not to taste it, so we dipped the ceviche with a pinch (thank God) of sauce ... The brain said “calm that it happens ”, But every second my tongue became more“ fiery ”and the point came when I begged“ Rober calls the firemen! ”.

Moral of the story: spicy sauces in Peru are VERY spicy.

SALTED LOIN

The sauteed tenderloin is a perfect example of fusion cuisine, in this case clearly with Chinese cuisine: the tenderloin is cut into strips and the wok is prepared with onion, pepper, potatoes and cilantro. And it is accompanied with rice. Very rich!

LEMON PIE

A good meal always ends with a good dessert, and this time we were very lucky: the lemon cake we ate was delicious: meringue, cream, lemon sauce and sponge cake… I ate a whole right now!

In short, if you have never tried Peruvian food, what are you waiting for? You're going to love it! And if you are already among the fans of this gastronomy, we assure you that the “Mochica” Restaurant is very worthwhile, we are left wanting to try more, Yum! In addition the service is fast, friendly, it is located in the center of Barcelona and when we went, a Tuesday night was full, and for something it will be!
