CROSSING THE ARTHUR'S PASS

After getting up surrounded by vans and the odd weka that was hanging around looking for something to eat, we started what would be the last coast to coast of our trip through New Zealand: we expected the Arthur's Pass.

The Arthur's Pass is a mountain port of the New Zealand Alps located about 920 meters high. What stands out is obviously its landscape: snowy peaks interspersed with yellow plains, icy and blue rivers that give way to viewpoints that remove the hiccups.

And suddenly they: a colony of keas, the typical alpine papagallo of this area of New Zealand! Finally we could see them and they were delighted to pose for our camera and above all to be able to nibble the tires and the wiper blades! These birds are reputed to be super intelligent, curious and friendly (be careful not to give them food, which is prohibited!). The truth is that they are very beautiful, with the olive green plumage and the orange-red belly, Rober was able to caress the beak of one although it was the juice: a peck and bye bye hehe, luckily they are herbiborous and Spanish meat prefer berries and estate…

After saying goodbye to our new friends (and before they broke our car) we continued our journey soon finding a new surprise: a settlement with my last name, well with part of my last name, but it made me just as excited and as a Japanese tourist anyone I took a thousand photos.

Now, it was time to rest and what better place to spend the night than on the shore of a lake? Here, after a dinner based on not-too-tasty istantana soup, we could see, again, the Milky Way (the sky of New Zealand is one of the things we are going to take from this beautiful country).

The awakening was magical, at least this says Rober who got up early and could see how the lake had transformed into a huge mirror ... I kept dreaming keas that shattered our car.

After breakfast we headed to the city that will be our last New Zealand house, Christchurch, although before you have to make a sweet tooth ... Springfield, the wiki brother of the town of Homer Simpson himself, and of course, in his honor we took a few pictures with a giant donut!

USEFUL INFO

Where to sleep: There are several free campsites along the Arthur's Pass, we spent the night at Lake Person (Moana Rua Campsite), with a non-flush bath but in a very beautiful setting.
