Day 14: BALI - UBUD: MAS - BATUAN - PURA SUSEH AND PURA DASAR - SINGAPADU - KUTA - IMPOSSIBLE BEACH - PURA LUHUR ULUWATU

Thursday, June 23, 2011

Today is going to be a quieter day in Bali, we have to go to the beaches of Bali and see the sunset in Pura Luhur Uluwatu So as Tomi also had some things to do in the morning, we decided to stay between 8.30 and 09.00 in the morning at the reception of Bebek Tepi Sawah Restaurant & Villas.
We went down to breakfast early, to take advantage of the first rays of sun and enjoy a little of the Ubud hotel, which until today we have hardly seen! 🙂
So today we can devote even a little time to take a short walk through the facilities.

Ubud hotel reception

Before 9 Tomi has already come and we are riding in the car, to head towards Mas, a town near Ubud, famous for its wood carvings and masks in Bali.
At the beginning we had told Tomi that we wanted to buy some size and he told us to wait a few days, to first meet Bali and then do the shopping. And today is the day that will take us !!

We start in a place where they teach us how to carve wood and then inside they have the exhibition.

Wooden workshop in Mas

Yes that is the typical site of Bali where they take tourists, but we are alone and Tomi has explained that it is one of the best places to buy sizes and that the quality is very good.
We are seeing a while as they carve the wood, but already with the desire to buy we go directly inside.
We begin to separate the ones we like in a separate table, to then do the negotiation. We know more or less how much we have to ask why Tomi has given us some classes ... so after a while of bargaining with a saleswoman, they do not reach our price.
We leave with some sadness, because we liked the sizes very much and we don't feel like leaving without them.
But Tomi tells us that it is better to see another workshop and we will see different ones.
We decided to go to the second option we have, but it is a smaller store and the sizes are of less quality.
And as usually happens with these things, after much looking, we are not convinced by any of the sizes we see.
We went out and told Tomi that we didn't like them and that we prefer the first ones.

We ask for some help and he tells us that he will ask to speak with the owner, to see if it is possible to reach the price we want to pay.
We get in the car and return to the first place ... we are not going to run out of sizes! Hahaha
The truth is that we liked them from the beginning, but as always happens, we have gone to the most expensive, they have already warned us that they are the ones that teachers do, for these are more expensive, but we just see them ... there that we are gone !!!
We have re-negotiated with the saleswoman and Tomi has directly told her to please call her boss.
After half an hour more negotiations with the boss, in the end we have ended up paying 50 euros more to the change, of the initial price that we had said as a cap. Not bad for 6 figures that we take!

And we will not deny that we had paid twice what we have paid. But Tomi has not consented to us paying that price that was very high for him.
Already happy with our first purchases, we set off, to stop in the nearby town of Batuan de Bali.
There we visited the Pura Suseh, where we paid 20,000 rupees to enter.
Here we find more tourists than usual.

Pure Suseh

Like everyone else, we always find something different about him and we check that we would be watching him for hours.

We make these visits much faster than those of previous days.
The temples are still as beautiful or more, but the time as always comes to us and if we want to end up visiting everything we have in the planning, we have to reduce the time of the visits a bit.
From here we go to Singapadu, where we will visit Nyoman Suaka's house, marked in the guide, where we can see an authentic Balinese house.

It is quite aimed at tourism, but the truth is that it is very good and spending a bit of the last piece, where they try to sell you coffee or cocoa, the experience is worth it.
After this visit we go to Pura Dasar, where our guide takes the opportunity to have breakfast, while we visit the temple.

Pure Dasar

Pure Dasar

It's almost 12 in the morning and we decided that it is best to get on our way to Kuta and the Bali beaches. Although we have been told that it will disappoint us, we consider that we have to see it. Even if only for a while and thus be able to comment for ourselves!
And as soon as you enter: disappointment! This is guirilandia!
We park and go directly to the beach.
Tomi tells us that he will stay in the car resting while we "discover" what we have been looking for ...
We pass through one of the central streets, which are full of souvenir shops, to find ourselves facing the Bali beaches.

Kuta beach. Bali Beaches

We are amazed at how many surfers there are. Is incredible. But at the same time we do not stop looking at the infrastructure they have mounted around.

We are walking along the beach, taking some occasional photo and we stop to see that at some point ghostly works begin on the other side of the road parallel to the Bali beaches… is incredible!!! They have found the gold reef and have begun to expand Kuta.
They only see cranes everywhere and half-finished works.

We stopped to eat and decided that it is better to run away !!! After being, we have to recognize that it is a less "curious" place, that for our pleasure it is enough to see it and spend an hour there.
We go back to look for Tomi and from here we tell him that we want to go to the Balangan beach.
Tomi recommends that we go to another of the Bali beaches, that of Impossibles and the truth is that it is a success.
The path to access is a bit bad, but in the end we get it.

Impossibles Beach

Here we are not all the time we would have wanted, but as we have been saying these days, time is money and especially here! So we have to get going again ...
We have noted some Bali beaches more, but we see that with traffic it will be impossible to do them all and get to see the sunset in Pura Luhur Uluwatu. So we settle for watching this and we pay attention again to Tomi on the issue of traffic jams.
These beaches are much less crowded than Kuta and we cross with few people.
And back to the parking lot, we're going straight to the Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple, previously going to checkout and paying 20,000 rupees, including sarong and parking.
It took just over an hour to reach the parking lot. Today we are not as fair as yesterday, so we do not have to run and we go with the idea of enjoying this sunset in Pura Luhur Uluwatu.
When we arrive at the typical area from where the photos are taken, we realize that it will be spectacular.

Pura Luhur Uluwatu

The bad thing is that the site, like Tanah Lot, is full of people. But what are we going to do ... is what tourist sites have!

Pura Luhur Uluwatu

We see that there are a lot of monkeys and one of them is dedicated to steal glasses, once he does, he waits for a couple of men to throw food at him to release them.
We get on notice, but still, the monkey mounts on my back and takes my sunglasses off !!
The mother who ...
In the end I can recover them, but with a half shattered pin. I already have my special memory of Bali!!
Almost without realizing it, the sun begins to hide and the light becomes spectacular.
We don't stop taking pictures, time seems to stop for us ... one of the best views of the trip to Indonesia

When we realize it is after 6.30 in the afternoon and Tomi tells us that it will take us about 2 hours to reach Ubud.
We are already like yesterday ... so we leave as always in these cases, turning our heads and staying with the last image forever in our retinas:

Sunset at Pura Luhur Uluwatu

And so is the truth of Tomi's claim that the caravan in the Kuta part is horrible and in the end we planted at Bebek Tepi Sawah Restaurant & Villas at 8.30 at night.
We decided that today we will have dinner here and before dinner we tell Tomi to stay with us for a drink and chat for a while.
The truth is that today, although it was a quieter day, we are k.o.
After dinner and a shower, it took less than 15 minutes to drop!
More tomorrow Bali… and better?
We'll know that tomorrow.
