Day 5: BIKANER - JAISALMER

Saturday, May 05, 2012

Today we get up early! Let's go to Jaisalmer and we have already been warned that it will be about 6 or 7 hours of travel from Bikaner to Jaisalmer by car.
We hope that from now on the routes in car in india go shorter!
We have spent a quite busy night with a lot of heat. This is what so far is overwhelming us a little more than we expected.
After being in countries like Jordan, in the month of May, we thought we would take it better.
Besides, it seems incredible that in these 4 and 5 star hotels in India they have air conditioners and fans as loud as the one we have in the room of The Laxmi Niwas Palace.
Either you get hot or you don't sleep because of the noise… there's no other left :))
We are going to have breakfast thinking that at least we will have the car to give a nod, although that later I never do it because I am delighted looking at the landscape !! Luckily Roger does take advantage of some of these times to rest.

And after 5.30 hours of travel and a stop to have a drink and stretch our legs we arrive at what will be our hotel in Jaisalmer: the Desert Tulip Hotel & Resort.
East of Jaisalmer, like yesterday's Bikaner, imposes only to see it outside. The building is impressive and the rooms are very good.
We are pleased to see that in this the pool and the rest is quite clean.

Hotel Desert Tulip after the journey from Bikaner to Jaisalmer

We meet Mahendra at 5.30 in the afternoon to go to see the cenotaphs of the city of Jaisalmer and go to Sunset Point before going to dinner.
We have already told you that tomorrow we want the “free” day and thus start moving on our own, without the help of the car.
But being the Desert Tulip Hotel & Resort a bit out of the city of JaisalmerHe tells us that he will come looking for us in the morning, he will leave us in the Jaisalmer Fort and it will leave us to our air. There has been no way to convince him to let us go alone 🙂 Although the truth is that it is perfect for us to take him in the morning.
He has asked us to go to his house for dinner one night, so we have already confirmed that tomorrow we will go with him to get to know his house and his family.
After resting, the first thing we do is go to Bada Bagh, the truth is that we had not heard very good opinions, but they say that you have to see things before you can judge them ... so that we have done ... and the truth is that they have Reason, 300 rupees the entrance and not worth it.

From here we go to the famous Sunset Point (100 rupees both) of Jaisalmer and although it is very hot, we dare only seeing what awaits us.

As we get closer to the most impressed cenotaphs we are staying before what we see.

Sunset point

In the middle of the tour we are looking for some shade where we stop to rest for a while and take that little hot air that runs.
The truth is that it is difficult to visit India in this age. The heat causes us to be low and the forces sometimes fail us. Today we have been told that we are at an average of 47 degrees. Take it now!
We don't stop drinking water every little time. We have calculated that we get an average of 4 liters per person between chest and back.

Overview of the Fort from Sunset Point

From here Mahendra proposes us to go to another site of Jaisalmer where he says there are very good views of the Fort.
Of course we do not doubt it and ask you to take us.
And we cannot say anything other than if the views from before were amazing, those of now leave us with our mouths open.

Once fed up with so much open mouth amazed at the views, we go to the area of the Fort of Jaisalmer to walk around the streets and get lost a little, that at this time of the afternoon the little cool that it does is appreciated.
We find a India that we had not seen yet, we do not mean that it is more authentic, but it is more chaotic, more as we imagined before coming.

It begins to get dark in the streets of Jaisalmer

About 8 we go to the Jaisal Treat restaurant, highly recommended in the forums of trip to india, but upon arrival they tell us that it is closed because it is low season and they recommend us to go to the Trio.
It was our second option, so we didn't think too much and we planted there in less than 5 minutes.

Trio restaurant in Jaisalmer

The truth is that as we go up we see that it is quite touristy, but when they offer us a secluded table, to sit on a kind of mattresses with cushions on the floor, we do not doubt it and choose it. Today there is a full moon ... and the truth is that the site invites you to relax and live India to the fullest, it's not like the hotel of Bikaner from yesterday but this one has more charm if possible.

Dining at Jaisalmer's Trio restaurant

Roger has a kind of scallop with potatoes and I have pakoras and potatoes in a naan sauce. We drink a couple of colas and the account comes out for about Rs 600.
Not bad to be a highly recommended restaurant in Jaisalmer.
We finish shortly before 10 and take an autorikshaw to the Desert Tulip Hotel & Resort for 80 rupees.
The negotiation does not last long because we are tired, so after a couple of negotiations, we give in to what we think is a reasonable price.
And now to put the air and rest from this trip to india… .
