Day 3: LAKE NAKURU - MASAI MARA

Monday, November 1, 2010

Today we have to leave at 6 in the morning, so we wake up at 4.30 in the morning so we can get going. We have the trip of Lake Nakuru al Masai Mara
You have to have breakfast, you have to teach us to tear down the stores, we have to pick them up and then load everything in the truck.
This will be the case during the first 5 days of travel through Kenya.
So it is better to heed the guide and follow his advice, to do everything in the best way and not delay the departure.
We had breakfast before dismantling and so while we dedicated ourselves to the stores, Simon, the cook and Saydi (assistant) can pick up the kitchen stuff.
As yesterday, we had toast, cereals, juices ... fruit ... and we have a novelty, today there are eggs and bacon!
As of today, it will be customary to have eggs for breakfast.
After this we pick up the stores and start to get everything on the truck.

In the end, after an effort at that time in the morning, we can leave 10 minutes of the scheduled time!
Today we are heading from Lake Nakuru al Masai Mara.
This morning we see many giraffes, so although it is very soon ... our mood is already high and we start to take pictures like crazy.

We see admiring the park with the morning light, which makes having a spectacular landscape in sight.
We continue to cross with gazelles, zebras ... and stop when we see an owl in a tree, it is quite hidden, but in the end we managed to locate it,

East Nakuru Lake landscape It is perfect for photography. It is difficult not to ask the driver to stop at any moment, to take pictures or simply admire the landscape.

Suddenly the truck stops and we see nothing, until we look down and see a hyena, lying on the road, we have it right next to the truck.

It is the one we will see from closer and the impression is great.
The truck has the front part, the chill out, where there is a kind of mats and you can go lying down, sitting, enjoying a somewhat more relaxed position and at the same time, you have the roof exposed, to stand up in the safaris. Like a 4 × 4, but in a big way.
And the rest are two rows of seats (quite comfortable) on each side, with huge windows, which we carry open whenever we can. We only close them with heavy rain and dust.
Under the seats there is a kind of drawers, where we store large backpacks, bags ... etc and on the backs, there is another kind of drawer, to store small backpacks, cameras ...
That's where we have the plugs, to be able to charge mobiles, cameras, ipod ...
In the chill out part, we carry a fridge, with all the drinks we have bought with the boat. And under the same chill out, is the big fridge, where they store the food.
On the roof of the truck we have a kind of net, to place more things or tie up jackets, when there is danger of "leakage" by the wind. Even so, Saydi went down sometime, due to the fall of sunglasses.
At lunchtime we have already done the thick part of the trip and we have gone from Lake Nakuru al Masai Mara and we are already in the camping area of the Masai Mara.
Today is an “exceptional” day, since in the afternoon we have a visit to a Masai village.
In the area where we camp, we have at our disposal a restaurant-bar and common showers.
We set up stores in the Masai Mara National Park always around the truck in a circle.
After the assembly, they have prepared the food, so we get ready, like every day to eat in a spectacular place, in the middle of nature.
Then we have a coffee and wait to enjoy a good chat, when we go to visit the Masai people.
About 5 comes to find us a Masai who will guide us to the town.

Masai Mara National Park

We walk a part of the Masai Mara park to the town Along the way, the guide and he are giving us explanations of plants that we find along the way and their customs.
One of the best moments is when we met giraffes next to us and we were able to take some spectacular photos.

Once we arrived at the village, they welcomed us with a traditional dance, taught us how to make fire and we entered one of their houses.

After this we were with the children for a while and they showed us the things they sell. They already warned us that they were more expensive than anywhere else.

Masai Mara National Park

We made the way back accompanied by the Masai, the return to the camp lasted considerably less, since on the way out we made a detour, to make that little “safari” on foot through the area.
The visit to the Masai village itself is fine, although we are not going to deceive you and you can see the league that is touristy enough to see from afar that they are waiting for us and as soon as they see us appear they keep their cell phones and they are “placed” .
To get to camp in the Masai Mara we go straight to the showers and we get the surprise of the afternoon when it starts to rain, so we transfer dinner to the restaurant and have dinner there.
After dinner we took advantage of the place, to have a drink and comment on the day.
Today we stay a part of the group a little while chatting, but in Africa it gets up early, so at 11 p.m. we started our shops.
We slept with the sounds of the African night. We are in full Masai Mara in Kenya.
