Day 8: GRAZ- SCHONBRUNN PALACE - VIENNA

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Today it was time to get back early. At 6 we were already on the floor, leaving our hotel in Graz, the Mercure Graz City Hotel at 7 on the way to Schonbrunn Palace, the summer residence of Sissi near Vienna.
As we did not have breakfast in this hotel, we stopped at a highway restaurant, where we had some great baguettes.
It took us a while to reach Schonbrunn Palace 2 hours and a half or so from Graz.
Before leaving our luggage and returning the car, we decided to visit the Schonbrunn Palace, which is what is furthest from the center and for which we needed the rental car.
Upon arrival we see that there are enough people, so we left the rental car in Austria in the parking lot and hurried to the ticket office.
There we choose the entrance “Classic tour light”, for 15 euros per person. This includes everything we want to see of the palace, the 40 rooms of the palace, the gardens, the labyrinth, the gazebo ...

The entrance includes audioguide, so we are very guided and keeping all the details.
The tour of the 40 rooms, takes us 1 hour and a peak or so, so when we leave we go straight to buy water (we have not had a day of bad weather, it is suffocating heat).
After resting for a while, we go directly to the gardens, another of the visits to be made in theSchonbrunn Palace, the summer residence of Sissi near Vienna.
A good option from Vienna to visit the Schonbrunn Palace is to book a bus tour with a guide in Spanish that includes a city tour or this guided guided sunset tour that includes dinner and concert.
Another tip if you are going to visit many places of interest in the city such as the Palace is to buy the Vienna Pass.

Schonbrunn Palace

At this time of the year they are fully flowered, so the views are stunning.

Schonbrunn Palace

We are 1 hour and a peak circling the gardens, taking photos and more photos.

Roger wants to go up to the roundabout, so I decide to wait for him on a bench resting.

Schonbrunn Palace

I still have the memory of that "rest", 2 mosquito bites on my legs, which still hurt to rage and a swollen hand of another who took it with me and forced me to go to the pharmacy in search of something for the bites .

Schonbrunn Palace

After seeing that they were "eating" me alive and that Roger was already coming down, we go straight to the maze of theSchonbrunn Palace, the summer residence of Sissi.
There it took us a while to get our bearings and between photo and turns trying to find the platform to take photos from above, we are having a good time.

Schonbrunn Palace

After this, we see that it is 1 noon, we start to leave, since we have to go to the hotel and return the rental car in Austria about 2 in the afternoon, since the idea is to travel the city on foot, by what we will not need and the transfer to the airport do it by public transport and thus we save a few euros.

They charge us 15 euros more for parking in the Schonbrunn Palace, the summer residence of Sissi and we are already beginning to see how Vienna is, they charge even for breathing.
We arrived at our hotel in Vienna, Hotel Capricornio and we got a good surprise, very central hotel, large and impeccable rooms and a perfect location.
After sitting 5 minutes on the terrace of the room, we will return the rental car in Austria.
The site is almost on the outskirts, so we have to take the subway to get to the center again (1.6 euros each ticket).
Between one thing and another, it is 3 in the afternoon and we have not eaten, so we enter the first Italian we see, which with these we succeed as a rule.

After eating and resting for a while, we go straight to the St. Stephen's Cathedral, but we see that the crypt and the elevator to go up to the roof, are closed, so we decided to come tomorrow.

Vienna

After this we are following a route through the old town, as we did yesterday in Graz, which we have marked in the guide and we reached the Mumok museum.
All this with stops because of the heat it makes and protecting us every moment we can.

Vienna

Between this route, we stop at Mozart coffee, to have a drink and enjoy Viennese "elegance".
When we look at the clock, it is 9 o'clock at night and we are not hungry yet, but our body says that it can no longer go, so we retreat to our “rooms” without having dinner even with the effect of having eaten almost at 4 in the afternoon when we can say that we begin our visit to Vienna.
Cafes, bars, restaurants are bursting, the atmosphere in the street is amazing.
Tomorrow more and who knows if better.
