Day 9: Wadi Rum - Aqaba

Thursday, May 7, 2009

We woke up at 5.30 to see the sunrise and as it happened last night, the sky was quite overcast and we could hardly enjoy the sunrise. Today we have to collect everything after sleeping in the desert of Wadi Rum and take a taxi to take us to Aqaba from Wadi Rum.
As soon as we wake up we check that we have some suspicious pimples on our arms and hands, something that makes us think we were not alone on the mattress 😉
We remain lying until 7 in the morning that they call us to say that breakfast is served, that like yesterday's dinner, it is delicious.
After a while our guide tells us that we are leaving, so we collect our backpacks and return to our beloved jeep back.
You can imagine the cold weather in the Wadi Rum desert at night and in the morning, and we, as we told you yesterday without a window as it is broken, so we arrived after 45 minutes of travel as "chicks".
Once at Mohamed's house, we will tell you that please call the taxi we commented yesterday so that you can come find us and take us to Aqaba from Wadi Rum. After talking with a man there, he tells us that if he calls a taxi it will take more than an hour to arrive and that if we want for 20 dinars, this man will take us to Aqaba.

Before we leave, we tell him the hotel in Aqaba where we are staying and he tells us directly that he does not know where he is, but that he will take us to the station and that we take another taxi to get to the hotel.
We accept without even looking at each other. I think that neither of us really want to be here much longer.
But surprise: when we have been traveling for 10 minutes, of course always talking to our cell phone, the man tells us that he will leave us on the side of the road, in the middle of a road that we do not even know where we are, to take another taxi with which He has spoken on the phone. He tells us that he does know where the Aqaba hotel is and that for 5 more dinars, it will take us direct.
This begins to sound strange and yes it was something strange, when we see that another taxi appears, half a van, with a seat for 2 people, which are already occupied by some French, and they tell us to fit in how we can. Again we are sardines again!
You will ask yourself why we do not claim if we do not agree with these things and we really believe that it is what has to be done, but the truth is that after yesterday's experience and seeing how this company worked, we had little to do, so all we wanted was to get to Aqaba from Wadi Rum.
After almost 2 hours we arrive at the Captain's Hotel in Aqaba which looks very good, but they tell us that until 13.30 noon they don't give us the room and it's still 11 in the morning, so let's go for a spin and have a drink Before returning to the hotel.
Full of sand and dust, since in the Wadi Rum camp there were no showers or even a bucket of water, we visited the beautiful city of Aqaba, losing ourselves in its streets.

Aqaba

We return to the hotel at noon to take a shower and after waiting an hour to bring us the towels we have requested at the reception we take the best shower of these 10 days.
The stomach begins to get our attention so we went down to eat at the hotel restaurant, recommended by the Lonely Jordan and eat until we get fed up at a very good price.
Now we are resting in our room and we have “bought”A few hours of Wi-Fi connection, although the signal does not arrive in our room, so we will have to settle for going down to the reception and from there we get a little updated.

In the afternoon we go out again to enjoy the city of Aqaba again and take the opportunity to take out the bus tickets from Aqaba to Amman With the Trust company, we have it right in front of the hotel and it stops right there.
With our tickets already in hand, we return to dinner at the hotel and take some time from the table to enjoy the rest that we rarely have on our trips.
