Day 6: Petra

Today we started the day a little earlier, although we can visit Petra in two days, at 6.30 in the morning we are having breakfast at the Petra Palace Hotel, a fairly complete breakfast including toast, which almost makes me excited after not seeing them since we started this Travel to Jordan for free.
We want to reach the Siq from Petra first thing in the morning to try to be as alone as possible and we already have the idea in mind: if today there are many people at 7, tomorrow we will go before.
We arrive at the entrance about 7 and buy tickets for visit Petra in two days for 26 dinars per person and in this area we see that there are not many people. Imagine that the first section together with the Siq we do it practically alone.

After a good time in this area we go to the Royal Tombs, an area where we are about 2 hours, visiting all the things that Fabio's guide marks us that is helping us to get to know the city of Petra much better.

We look at the clock and it's 11 in the morning. We have been here for 4 hours and we have not noticed. We planned to go up to the Monastery first thing in the morning and we got so involved that we didn't even remember. After assessing it, in the end we decided to rise, even if it is a little late and the sun is quite high.
Yesterday we looked at the weather forecast on the internet and it was raining, we assure you that we look well and look for “Petra” because it has not been that way, it has made us a sun of justice throughout the day.

And said and done, we are on our way to Petra Monastery, passing through the entire area of the column route where we stop at some places, especially in the Unfinished Tomb and the Columbarium, until we see the “entry”To the path that leads to the Monastery. What a rise awaits us.
I halfway to Petra Monastery I have even thought about abandoning, I looked at the donkeys (many people get on one of them and so do the road) and I thought it would not be bad to ride one, that it would even be a good experience. Imagine what tiredness does !!

But after 40 minutes of climbing, we see behind the rocks the highest part of the Monastery and that gives me some strength to finish climbing.
I am very attracted, during the whole climb, the amount of older people who come up with us. Ahead we take a small group of Spaniards, in which a man and a woman of about 75 or 80 years old, who go up at a pace that makes me consider the lack of exercise that I need. I was snorting almost from the beginning and they were so normal.
And so, between effort and effort we come to the incredible vision of Petra Monastery entering from the side that does not leave speechless. We cannot stop thinking that it has been worth the climb and effort.

We are having a good time taking pictures, almost without anyone, and then we sat in a bar that is right in front of us, in a cave adapted to have a drink and see the Monastery in the front line for 2 dinars, a coke, incredible. A gift with those views.

We have remembered the trip to Rome for free, when in a bar in front of the Parthenon, we “they blew”14 euros for a beer and a coke. What a difference in prices, being both in two impressive enclaves.

About 2 noon we started to go down, taking about 20 minutes or so to cross with the people who came up at this hour with a sad face that was to take a picture 😉
We have stopped at a buffet restaurant inside the Petra compound, where we have eaten for 10 dinars per head without drinks. The truth is that we have found it expensive for what they had, but it is logical that this site charges these amounts.
After lunch when it is about 4 in the afternoon and we have been walking almost 9 hours without stopping and the fatigue starts to show, now we understand when the first day we went to the Visitor Center of Petra there were people who left at 4 In the afternoon, we decided in the end to go to the Treasury area and stop at the bar in front, to rest another time, before taking the Siq de back home.
And how could it be otherwise, in the journey through the Siq we have again taken photos, with different light and with different perspectives.

At the start we have not been able to refuse to eat a quick ice cream at the Movenpick, without much rest since we need an urgent shower, and that is that we are bathed in sand.
After resting at the Petra Palace Hotel, we have gone down to charge the laptop to the reception, and it turns out that today they do not have adapters, but they have taught us how to charge it: by putting a key in one of the “holes” of the plug and that so pass the current as if there was an adapter.
After consulting some things, we have made our way to the “Red Cave Restaurant”, A restaurant that is also recommended by Lonely and where everything is great and very well priced.
Today has been a hard day and tomorrow we have another one ahead but yes, I will not stop going to have a drink at the Cave Bar, a Nabatean cave, just at the entrance to Petra, which has caught our attention. Tomorrow will be another day. Today we dream of the incredible wonder we have been lucky to enjoy today.
