This year, after placing on the calendar what would be the long trip of the year in which we met China and adjust the escapes we had based on holidays and bridges we still had 18 days in which we were clear that we wanted to find a destination different, that fit into the days we had to know the most important and that had little to do with the dates we were going to travel, Christmas. After giving it several laps and stating that it would not be bad to finish the trip somewhere on the beach, where to rest and disconnect a little from all the work of the year, we decided that the time had come to fulfill a traveling dream…

… This Christmas we are going to Guatemala and Honduras!!

When we decided that this was going to be the last destination of this year 2015 and the first of 2016, the first thing we did was to look for the flights, trying to make them as tedious as possible, something that in the end was twisted a bit as we will tell you later and later . Thanks to the offers of flights that we look for daily to publish in Best Flight we find one that allowed us to enter through Guatemala City and exit through San Pedro Sula, in Honduras, fitting perfectly with what we were looking for and for a really good price, especially counting the dates in which we fly, for 600 euros round trip each.

Although now, after almost 8 months of having the ticket in our hands, we have to say that for a time change in the outbound flight, where we initially made a stopover in Houston and after modifying the airline, we found a stopover in New York of 5 hours in which we have to make an airport change. At first we have to say that we were not very funny, even considering canceling the ticket, but after contemplating the possibilities and telling that we had already looked at the whole trip and we had a terrible desire to know Guatemala and Honduras, we prefer to adapt to what there was. Thanks to Blacklane we will do the transfer between JFK airport and Newark by private car In this way we go much quieter at this point of the trip and above will allow us to take a little tour of New York before returning next year.

The route through Guatemala We will start it in Antigua, one of its best known and also most beautiful enclaves, and we have to say that since we first saw a photograph of the Arc de Catalina, we don't fall in love with this city.

From here and thanks to Guatemala Destinations, with whom we will make all the routes of this trip to Guatemala and Honduras in 18 days we will go to Chichicastenango, also known as Chichi, one of the most important indigenous markets in Central America.
Once we have visited the market we will go to Lake Atitlan, another of the most touristic enclaves of Guatemala and at the same time one of the most beautiful, where we hope to spend a day full of surprises.

In the Lake Atitlan We will spend a day touring some of its most well-known towns such as San Marcos la Laguna, San Pablo La Laguna, San Juan La Laguna and San Pedro La Laguna, each of them with a totally different culture from the rest and that we hope will pleasantly surprise us.
From here we will go to one of the areas that we most want to know in Guatemala such as El Petén, where we will make a small incursion in Flores to get from there to Yaxha and Tikal, two of the archaeological complexes that we most want to know and from where in the latter we will enjoy the awakening of the jungle making its famous sunrise tour.

After a few days in this area of Guatemala We will embark on an almost complete day of transfers to arrive, a very special day of the year, to Semuc Champey, a natural enclave that just by seeing it in photos, we believe is the most fascinating.

From here and after recharging energies of the day of travel that brought us here, we will have another day that will involve a few hours of travel, this time to reach Sweet River, from where we will make a short break to Livingston, where the Garifunas live, an ethnic group that descends from Africans from different regions of the Caribbean and Central America.

Once we reach this point we will end our trip to Guatemala to make way for the border with Honduras where before crossing it we will visit Quirigua and of course not laterCopan, one of the greatest exponents of the country, where we will once again enjoy one of the most important and interesting archaeological sites in the world.
