To create this Route of Rome in 5 days We have been based on the month we spent living in the Trastevere neighborhood, during which we wrote this travel guide to Rome step by step.

Tips for traveling to Rome

This list of tips will help you prepare your trip to the Eternal City:

  • To get to your hotel from any of the 2 main airports of Rome, you have several means of transport: train, bus, taxi or book the direct transfer to the hotel, the most convenient and fastest alternative.
You can find more detailed information about the transfer in this post on how to get from Fiumicino Airport to Rome and how to get from Ciampino Airport to Rome.
  • Keep in mind that Rome does not have a wide metro network, so if you want to get around the city by public transport, the bus is probably the best option. Tickets can be purchased at kiosks for a price of 1.5 euros each ticket and you must remember to validate it at the time of entering.
  • One of the best tips if you are going to visit the most famous monuments and buildings in the city is to buy the OMMIA Vatican and Roma Card, with which you will save time and money by skipping the long lines that form in all these places. You also have unlimited public transport and the free tourist bus.
  • A good area to stay in this Rome in 5 days It is the area where Termini station is located. We have stayed twice in this place, being well connected to the airport and not far from the center.
The hotels chosen for our stay were the Hotel Cherubini and the UNA Hotel, the first one cheaper, although the second one for us has a better value, despite being more expensive.
  • If you want to stay in a more charming neighborhood, we recommend Residenza San Calisto, located a few meters from Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of our favorite neighborhoods in the city. For more information on accommodation you can consult this post about the best neighborhoods and hotels to stay in Rome.
  • Remember that in order not to pay commissions and always have the current change we recommend you use the N26 card to pay and the Bnext and Revolut cards to get money at the ATMs. They are the ones we use, They are free and will save you a lot. You can find more information in this article about the best cards to travel without commissions.
