Based on the time we spent in the city during our trip to Florence in 5 days and on the trip to Cinque Terre, we have made a list of what we think, are the 10 essential places to visit in Pisa. We start!

1. The Leaning Tower

The Leaning Tower is one of the most visited monuments in Italy and one of the most essential places to see in Pisa. Actually, the tower is nothing more than the bell tower of the Duomo, since in Italy it is customary that it is not integrated into the church building.
The famous inclination of about 4 degrees began at the beginning of the construction in the year 1173, product of the clay soil and the shallow depth of the foundations and after 177 years, the construction of the 8-story tower and the bell tower ended, reaching a height of 55 meters.
In 1990 it was closed to stabilize the tower and prevent its fall, a process and some works that lasted for 20 years, reopening to the public in 2011.
As a curiosity, it is said that Galileo Galilei demonstrated one of his theories, throwing from the top of the tower two cannon balls.

To climb the tower and enjoy its views it is advisable to book the entrance in advance, having a limited number of daily visits. You can also try your luck and go to the ticket office very soon, just in front of the Tower, so that they give you time to climb during that same day.

A good option for a similar price is to book this entrance to the Leaning Tower with which you will avoid the long lines of the tower and the cathedral, especially in high season.

3. The Baptistero

The Baptistero, located in front of the Cathedral, is the largest in Italy and our favorite building in Pisa. With a height similar to that of the Leaning Tower and a diameter of 36 meters, this white marble building is a real wonder.
And although its interior could be considered sober, we assure you that it impresses both for its grandeur and for the octagonal baptismal font, placed in the center.
In addition to enjoying the interior acoustics, do not forget to climb some side stairs to the top of the Baptistero, from where you will have magnificent views of the Cathedral.
