We have already told you that with Berlin it has not been love at first sight although this does not mean that it does not seem like an interesting city. It is, and a lot. In today's article we are going to give you a few tips to visit Berlin and enjoy it to the fullest (crush or not!).

We are unconditional fans of improvisation, but it is clear that there are cities where if you want to take advantage of the trip, you have to plan. Berlin is one of them. The German capital is enoooorme, if you do not organize yourself you run the risk of wandering its streets like a headless chicken (my god, what an ugly image).

Specifically, our advice is to divide your visit according to thematic areas and dedicate each day to one of them. Here are some ideas, but feel free to create your own:

  • WWII (Monument to the Jews, topography of terror, Under Van Linden, Jewish quarter)
  • Cold War (Berlin Wall, East Side Gallery, DDR Museum, Checkpoint Charlie). Tip: if you are interested in learning more about the Cold War, take this tour, it is a pass and it only costs € 15!
  • Berlin Current (Kreuzberg, Prenzlauer Berg, street art tour, Tempelhof, gastronomic tour)

If you travel to Berlin for a weekend you have to know that you will NOT be able to see everything. Is a putaden Yes, but you have to know how to select or you will spend the trip going from one place to another without really learning or enjoying the visits. Ideally, you could be in the city for 5-7 days.

But how to choose what to see and do? Soon we are going to tell you what are the 10 things that you cannot (nor should) miss in Berlin.

We already said that Berlin is a huge city and to visit its main points of interest you will have to use the means of transport again and again. So our advice is to get an unlimited transport card (used for metro, bus and tram). It costs about € 7 / day but if you plan to be in Berlin at least 3 days it will be more profitable to get a “Berlin Welcome Card” (€ 19.9). You can also take advantage of discounts of up to 50% in many attractions and museums. You can buy it here.

Tip: also check out the Museum Pass.

Depending on the days you visit the city you can enjoy free visits * olé for Berlin *.

  • The MondayFor example, the Guggenheim in Berlin (KunstHalle by Deutsche Bank) is completely free (we saw a beautiful, though tiny, exhibition on Pollock),
  • The TuesdayAt 1pm, you can attend free concerts at the Philharmonic. There is no reservation, so go ahead (45 minutes) to avoid running out of space. Look at the concert calendar.
  • On Thursdays, every foodie worth its salt will eat at street food Thursday, one of the most interesting gastronomic markets in the city.
  • On Sundays, don't forget to go for a picnic and sing karaoke at the Maurerpark!

We had a cold of fuck. I think you don't need to add anything else.

Although there is something free to do (and that we did not do :-p) is to climb the dome of the Reichstag, the German parliament. To do this you have to request date and time of your visit here.

German cuisine has no special reputation but your stomach does not panic, there are a few dishes that can be eaten (and even enjoyed!). There are also many options to eat cheaply in Berlin.

  • Currywurst: sausages with ketchup and curry sauce. They say the best is that of Curry 36 (Mehringdamm 36).
  • Eisben: sabrosón sabrosón pork knuckle.
  • Shnitzel: breaded pork chop and accompanied by french fries or potato salad, a good place to try one is the SSchnitzel cheers (Warschauer Pl. 18).
  • Brezel: baked muffin that has the typical loop shape.
  • Bratwurst: Thanks to him we understood why Germans are sausage-dependent. Around the city you will find street vendors of sandwiches with this delicious sausage. The best? That only costs € 1.5.
  • Kebab: after Turkey, Berlin is possibly the best place to try a delicious kebab. They say the richest is in Mustafa's Gemüse Kebap (Mehringdamm 32,) right next to Curry36 ... so you know, apologize to your stomach and cholesterol, but you have to try both!

We always recommend using a card when traveling. Both for payments and to get money. It is not very cool to carry large amounts of cash on top, so it can happen. But be careful because your bank can charge you high commissions! Here we tell you the solutions to have money abroad. Our solution is to always carry a Bnext card each, which we complement with another N26 card. Both are free and we believe they are the best option.

There are many offers of free tours, although almost all offer the same: the typical walking tour that, in a couple of hours, takes you to tour the main monuments of the city. Remember that the tours are free but nevertheless tips are always welcome….

There is also a great suuuper free tour… by bike! You can book it here.
