NEW YORK CONTRAST TOUR: OPINION AND EXPERIENCE

When we were preparing the trip to New York looking for info in a lot of blogs, there was something we saw recommended again and again by people who had already been: contrast tour. Contrast tour? And what is that? After having lived and experienced we can tell you a little more about him and our personal experience.

And don't forget to take a look at the 100 things to see and do in New York!

The tour of contrasts is simply one of the things you should do in New York, almost mandatory! We cannot do more than join the tide of recommendations, and that is that too many tourists when they visit New York for the first time, they only know one of their faces: Manhattan.

But the city actually offers much more: New York is made up of 5 boroughs (Manhattan, Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island). Each of these neighborhoods is a unique and different world from the other (and even, within the neighborhood there are several subworlds) ... Come on, that New York is a great city and very, very, very interesting.

But let's get to the mess:

It is a tour of 4 of the different neighborhoods of the city that is done by minibus and with a Spanish-speaking guide: it starts in Manhattan where is the place of stay, streets as famous and popular as 5th Avenue are crossed, neighborhoods of New York millionaires are crossed and all this to address what is actually the first destination: it is none other than ... the "feared" Bronx .

Surely if you hear the word Bronx The first thing that comes to mind are gang members, drugs and various messes. Well, he Bronx that is not all. With the tour you will visit the New York Yankees stadium area, the most beloved baseball team in the city, which turns out to be quiet and pleasant, although you can also see more conflictive areas (where there are police observation posts and posters where They warn that the place is being watched 24 hours a day) and dive in the most artistic side of the neighborhood (it is very interesting to know the history behind the main graffiti of the Bronx!).

Queens, the largest and most multicultural neighborhood in New York, will be the next destination. And here you begin to understand why the name "contrasts". In Queen you will pass, among others, through the MALBA neighborhood, one of the most chic areas of the city, full of mansions that seem part of a Holibudian decoration, until you reach the liveliest and colorful neighborhoods that rise around Roosvelt Av. In Jackson Heights you will think you have landed in the middle of Latin America, everything is written in Spanish, there are Mexican, Ecuadorian, Colombian food carts, Puerto Rican flags, women with traditional costumes ... And suddenly, you turn the corner and zas: you are in Little India: the shops that predominate are the jewelers, the garments are now the turbans in the Sikh men and the saris in the women, the air smells like spices and your freaks in colors.

But the contrasts don't end here, which goes, New York always has an AS in the sleeve to surprise you. You cross to Brooklyn and you end up in Williamsburg, which if on the one hand it has become the homeland and paradise of every hipster that boasts, on the other hand it is full of the most serious and traditional orthodox Jews. The men wear the shtreimel, a black hat that shows the long sideburns (with ringlets better than mine after a session of hair) and most women ... this was a surprise, they wear a wig!

The contrast with the other neighborhoods is brutal and one cannot do anything but be astonished as a child who, for the first time, visits something that did not fit his imagination.

The final climax is the Brooklyn Bridge where the tour ends. Walking to Manhattan among its iron beams, staring at the huge skyscrapers that stand in front of you, you realize that no, there is no other city in the world that looks like New York. Because more than a city, it is the global nerve center of people, races and cultures.

There are many companies that offer this tour, we did it with Elena and we were delighted: Carlos, the guide, lives in New York for more than 20 years, was a professional and told us a thousand and one curiosities about New York and its neighborhoods. We enjoyed it a lot! Thank you very much to both of you 🙂

The meeting point is in the Times Square area at 08.00 am and our tour ended around 14.00. Therefore it calculates about 5-6 hours.

The price of the New York contrasts tour is $ 70 (about € 60) per person. If you are interested in knowing more about the city, it is money well invested (in addition, to make it profitable you can eat cheap the following days ... here we leave you a few ideas of where to eat cheap in New York 🙂

Several readers have told us that the tour proposed by Civitatis is also highly recommended and that it costs somewhat less (€ 43.5). We left it there.

Anyway, do it! Save money or cut other things, but the truth is that it seemed like a day pass! If you are concerned about the issue of being in the minibus and the language, do not worry: there are many stops along the route and the tour is in Spanish!

We haven't told you everything, everything, everything because we want to leave something that surprises you, but believe us ... New York Contrast Tour It's even better than what you just read!
