Day 20: LOMBOK: SENGGIGI -GILI ISLANDS (GILI TRAWANGAN)

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Today we have met that they come to look for us at 8 in the morning, to go to our penultimate destination of the trip to Indonesia. We are going by boat from Lombok to the Gili Islands!!
We hired a fast boat to take us to Gili Islands, but first you will come to find us a taxi, to take us to the port from where the fast boats leave.
It would have been a little cheaper for us to go on the local boats of Lombok, that even leave from the beach of Alang Alang Boutique Beach Resort, but since the sea is a bit choppy, we prefer to go safely and hire a Lombok boat to the Gili Islands.

We have breakfast as always at our table, by the sea, but this time we are a little more cautious with the amount.
At this step we will be charged “overweight” on the return plane.
At 8 and a little he comes to find us a taxi, to which we paid 80000 rupees for the same journey we did the first day. With this we have learned that you never have to trust anyone.
They leave us on a pier and there we have a speedboat, which, as the name implies, leaves us in front of our hotel in 10 minutes Gili Islands, the Villa Ombak.

As soon as we see the hotel from the outside we already realize that it will be more touristy, but it gives us good vibes.
We check in before 9 am and we are lucky that our room is ready. So we can go to download and rest for a little while before starting again.

When we arrive the truth is that we like it very much. Outdoor bathroom, is a typical construction of Lombok, resembling a lumbung and we have the room upstairs.
At the bottom a huge bed where to rest in the shade and a hammock.

It's a little after 9 in the morning and we decided it's time to take a first walk on the island.
We are seeing more or less of what we will be enjoying these days and we realize that despite looking very touristy, we will like it.
The atmosphere is pleasant in the Gili Islands
One of the things we have in mind and do shortly after leaving the hotel is to enter one of the dive centers and Roger hires a sea baptism for tomorrow at 8 in the morning.
A recommended option is to book this PADI Open Water diving course, dive baptism or dives in advance, all with a Spanish instructor.
After this, we continue walking and discover an island full of bars, restaurants, agencies ...
We started to get very hot, so we decided it's time to go for a drink, go back to the hotel for towels and go for a bath.
And that's what we do. At 11 in the morning we start going to the other side of the island, where bars and restaurants disappear and the deserted beaches of the Gili Islands.
Although with the odd beach bar, but with many more local people and fewer tourists. It is seen that the more you move away ... the less people you see ...

There we go through different coves, full of coral, taking a bath and resting.

About 1 we decided that it is time to stop being lizards in the sun and we will eat at a restaurant near the hotel, an Italian that looks great.
We pay good tribute and eat for about 300,000 rupees.
With a full stomach, we decided that it is a good time to go to the pool to “rest”. But it starts to rain, so we change the plan and go to our lumbung to read and take a nap that we need so much.
We woke up in time to go a little longer to the pool and go for another walk on the main street of the island, before going to dinner at Scallywag 's.
We ate some sandwiches and decided to return to Villa Ombak. We are very tired of Gili Islands for today. 🙂
The truth is that after the first day at Gili Islands, we can already say that travel diaries will be quite summarized ... we do few interesting things to be able to tell !!
One of the things we have been talking about today is the "phobia" we had before to "lose" days resting during the holidays. For a couple of years, we always try to have a relaxing day at the end of those vacations to charge our batteries a little trip to Indonesia. And we have to say that since we did it the first time we have continued to do it whenever we can!
