Day 5: KYLEMORE ABBEY - CLIFDEN - SKY ROAD - ROUNDSTONE - CLONMACNOISE - GALWAY

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

Today we start the morning at 8 having breakfast at the St. Judes Lodge B&B a “full irish breakfast” in our travel through Ireland. The truth is that it is not very clear that this is very healthy, at least for my "curves", but hey, it is what there is and I will not be the one who refuses to eat and less when we are about to charge the car like every morning and get on our way to Kylemore Abbey.
It takes us a little less than 1 hour to arrive and just when we are parking it starts to rain, so we decide that the first thing we will do are the photos from the outside and then we will go to inform us of the visits.

We are impressed by the views we have from the front and side and we are taking pictures of the Kylemore Abbey until the black sky returns and the threat of rain ceases to be, to be a fact.

So we look at the time and seeing that it is 11 in the morning, we decide that we will not make the visit, since this would mean being here until at least 2 in the afternoon.
We take the rental car in Ireland and go to Clifden, a small town from where the famous Sky Road departs.
Here we take the opportunity to stretch our legs for a while walking through the central square and the main street, where we do some shopping and enjoy the Irish atmosphere.

When we have already toured the Clifden town, we go back to the car and mark in our GPS the points to make the Sky Road and continue to Roundstone, from where the landscapes are spectacular, or at least that is what the guide puts.
And we will not take the opposite. They really are spectacular landscapes. At all times we go along the coast and we have views that we will surely forget.

We arrive at Roundstone about 2 in the afternoon, so we go straight to a small bar, where we eat for 22 euros or so.
At the moment we are "behaving" with the prices of meals, we can not complain!
We see that it is a little less than 3 in the afternoon and we decide that we will go to Clonmacnoise today. This was an optional visit we had today if we had time. But seeing that the day is clearing, we prefer to do it and not take risks.

Book the best rated tours and excursions in Spanish in Dublin by travelers:

- Excursion to the Cliffs of Moher
- Tour of the Game of Thrones stages
- Excursion to Belfast and the Giant's Causeway
- Excursion to Wicklow and Glendalough
- Dublin Mysteries and Legends

- More excursions and tours here

In the guide it says that they close at 7 in the afternoon, so let's go ahead.
It takes us a little more than 2 hours (in the final section we realize that the GPS has not taken into account the highway that leads from Galway up to 20 km before the Clonmacnoise Abbey!!)
And when we park and arrive at the visitor center of the Abbey of Clonmacnoise, a sign awaits us that says they close at 5.15pm ... we look at the clock and it is 5.20pm !! Can not be…
I say to Roger that nothing happens, that we will return tomorrow, but of course, we have stuck a 1 hour tute and peak on the way and we have to go back to Galway and tomorrow again the same round trip operation.
Roger insists on looking through the glass of the doors and a boy appears with a sad face that tells us that we can go through black doors that are in the back.
And it tells us that we don't need to pay !! We can be until 6 that closes the enclosure.
We don't even think about it for a minute and we start running, on the way to the Clonmacnoise Abbey. And they appear before us. The best ruins of our travel to Ireland!!

After this visit, we return to Galway happier than anyone else and this time on the highway, so in less than an hour we planted ourselves at the door of our hotel tonight, the Lake Lodge Guesthouse.
We check in and we will visit Galway.
We start with Eyre Square, to continue through the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas of Myra and Shop Street ...

After touring the most interesting part of Galway from top to bottom and crossing with more Spaniards than Irish, we stopped for dinner at the “The King 's Head” Pub.

Here we have dinner for 23 euros and shortly before 10 at night we go to the Galway hotel, the Lake Lodge Guesthouse, to rest. Although the environment invites us to stay, we need to get into bed, we are totally crushed.
More tomorrow…
