Day 7: KERRY RING (KILLARNEY - KENMARE - WATERVILLE - BALLINSKELLING - PORTMAGEE - CAHERCIVEEN - GLENBEIGH) - BLARNEY

Thursday, September 8, 2011

Today we woke up early with the intention of touring the famous Kerry's Ring of our travel to Ireland.
After breakfast at the Ashcroft Bed & Breakfast, we load the rental car in Ireland and set off to make this route practically circular, touring the most characteristic and famous villages in this area.
For this day we will not make such a detailed diary, since being a circular route has no loss.
The time we spend doing this tour has been almost a full day.
We make the first stop at the Lady 's View.

After this first stop, we pass the mountain pass of Molly's Gap and take the direction of Kenmare, once there, we turn west following the south coast of the peninsula.
In Waterville we stopped to take some photographs, since we found that it is a totally spectacular landscape.

At this point, we turn west to make a variant of the Kerry Ring, "The Skelligs Ring", which enters the Gaeltacht (Gaelic-speaking area) of Ballinskelligs / Dance na Sceilge. From here there are good views of the Skelligs, small islands or uninhabited islets located near the coast.

From here we continue the path by Kerry's Ring, suddenly encountering some cliffs (Update 2019: thanks to Manuel we know that the name is Kerry Cliffs Portmagee) that are not marked in the guide or we had read comments in any of the forums.
We decided to stop, since we are well on time and we find that after parking and starting to follow a path, a man shouts behind us.
We have not paid for parking! :))
He charges us 5 euros. Take it now !!! And we continue our way, to discover some spectacular cliffs (although after those seen already, these are a bit “lackluster”)…

After this brief stop, we go to the island of Valentia, where we discover one of the most spectacular landscapes of today.

Courage

There is a bridge to pass the island of Valentia from the town of Portmagee, and another route "The Ring of Valentia" that goes around the island of Valentia.

Little by little, this little piece of land leaves us with a better taste. It really is one of the most spectacular of the Irlada trip What we are seeing today.

Courage

We stop at one of the viewpoints to have an impromptu picnic and after resting for a while, we return to Portmagee, where we stop at a bakery to give us “a tribute”.

From here, as we are doing very well in time, we decided to make a brief stop in Cork, a city that we had planned to pass by and that in the end has turned out to be a discovery, since there we have spent a very lively afternoon.
