Day 15: STONE TOWN

Saturday, November 13, 2010

Last night we decided that each of the group would go at the time I wanted to town of Stone Town in Zanzibar. The truth is that for us to go for free, with things what to see in Stone Town There is the best option.
We are a little away from the center of Stone Town and we will take a taxi from the Mtoni Marine Resort to take us to the best known part of the city.

Our hotel in Stone Town in Zanzibar

We have breakfast about 9 in the morning and we about 10.30, we are ready to call a taxi and take us downtown.
We have more or less a route that we want to visit and some targeted stores where to do some shopping.

We have been told that they are stores where they have fixed prices and do not haggle, so we decided that it is best to go there first.
It is quite hot, so we try to go too far in all the streets so as not to start feeling bad.
We see enough tourists and this already looks like any other holiday town, although with much more essence.
The Stone Town center It is spectacular. At first it impacts by being dirty and seeing the buildings without restoring, but this is what gives the city a different personality and makes it unique.

Stone Town in Zanzibar

After a while, when you walk and start to see the details, it is when it really impresses.

Stone Town in Zanzibar

The doors, the buildings, the narrow streets ... Any detail lends itself to being photographed.

Streets of Stone Town in Zanzibar

Stone Town corners

We would have stayed one more day, but not to buy, if not to lose ourselves aimlessly through the alleys of Stone Town

Enjoying Stone Town in Zanzibar

After looking at some stores, we go near the Livingstone bar to have a drink because we are dry so hot. And Roger has not yet fully recovered from the ride in search of dolphins yesterday and is still dizzy.
After resting for a while, we go again to the “shopping” area, but this time to the bargaining area so that we can see it in these stores.
We go along the street, but we do not see anything that we like and we began to be overwhelmed a little by the harassment of the sellers.

Stone Town in Zanzibar

There we met the rest of the group, chatted for a while and exchanged opinions from different areas of the city and different stores we entered.
We have not yet bought anything we were looking for, so we took advantage of these minutes to get to work and we ended up buying a pair of masks, a vase, a pair of sizes, foulards ... Come on, that with this we will already carry the backpacks of butt hand
With the bags in hand, we are not looking for a restaurant that we have been recommended and we find another couple who also go there, in the end it turns out that the whole group has been to eat at the same restaurant, so we joined to them.
We eat and rest for a while in the restaurant, then go straight to get a taxi, to take us to the hotel Stone town.
Chance or not, in front of the store, we found the taxi driver who had brought us in the morning and tells us that he was waiting for us to finish to take us back ... amazing ...
Imagine that the journey is more or less than 15 minutes by car and charges us less than 5 euros to change.
And it is already something expensive, for being hired directly by the hotel. So we can imagine why the taxi driver is there.
Once at the hotel we will rest for a while in the room.
In the afternoon we will connect for a while to the hotel's computers (they do not have Wi-Fi) and have a drink at the bar to finish "killing" these last hours we have left on our trip.
At 9 pm we have the last group dinner of the trip to Kenya and Tanzania.
We gathered the whole group on the beach and “celebrated” our last day together.
After this we are going to check out at the Mtoni Marine Resort, because tomorrow they come to pick us up at 5 in the morning to catch the flight back home.
They tell us that at 4.30 in the morning we will have some breakfast prepared in the restaurant.
It is our last night in Africa and we see our rooms with a strange mixture of feelings ...
