Day 1: Flight from Barcelona to Aswan (Egypt), transfer to the boarding pier and cruise on the Nile.

Thursday, October 12, 2006

Our trip to Egypt It started in a slightly "weird" way. It is the first time we traveled with an agency, organized by Egypt. For opportunities that life offers us, we get this trip much cheaper than what the agency offered (but this is another story) that maybe one day we will tell, now we will focus on things what to see in Egypt.
We left Barcelona on time and after about 5 hours we landed in Aswan. The first impact was the bus that took us to the terminal ... the driver would be a great F1 driver !!
We take our bags and find the one that will be our guide in these 11 days.
They take us by bus to our "cruise ship".
First impressions are very good, so we leave our bags and meet in one of the rooms, where, as you might imagine, they sell us extra excursions.
After this, they give us the rest of the afternoon free until dinner and most stay on the ship, but we, encouraged by 2 companions, go to visit ...
The market of Aswan, here we begin to see the essence of Egypt and we loved it !!
After wandering for hours, we returned to the ship for dinner and rest.
Although Egypt can be visited for free, you will find it better priced and safer to book an organized circuit with an agency. Among the best valued by travelers are this 8-day all-inclusive trip to Egypt or this 11-day trip that also includes the Red Sea.

Day 2: Visit Aswan Great Dam and Temple of Philae (Temple of Isis ...) later navigation to Kom Ombo.

Friday, October 13, 2006

We wake up early. It must be said that on this trip to Egypt We always get up early, because of the heat, it was more advisable to make the visits first thing in the morning.
We visited the dam of Aswan, one of the places what to see in Egypt, to go later, sailing, to the Temple of Philae. It was the first temple we saw and it is the one that has been most recorded in my retina.
Awesome. While you are walking and accessing the Temple area, everything is a look of surprise and questions: "How could they do this?" it is the one that will be repeated millions of times on this trip to Egypt.
After the visit, we return to the ship and head to Kom Ombo, where we arrived already getting dark. We visit the Temple, which like the previous one impresses us greatly.
We do not stop taking photos and observing any detail that catches our attention.
After a couple of hours, dinner time arrives and we return to the ship.
The meals on the cruise are fantastic and very complete.
After dinner we always go on deck, to rest and comment on the impressions of the day.
After this day full of emotions, we go to sleep as children.

Day 3: Visit Horus temple in Edfu, navigation to Esna, pass through the sluice and continue to Luxor.

Saturday, October 14, 2006

We get up early, as usual and after breakfast, we go to the deck to have tea and go watching landscapes of Egypt, as we head to our next destination.
We arrive in Edfu and disembark to see the Temple of Horus, one of the essential places to visit in Egypt.
This Temple takes us about 2 hours to visit, always with the comments of our guide and our "getaways", to take pictures of the things that impress us most.
After this visit, we embark again and head to Esna.
We arrive at the sluice at dusk and we go up on deck to see the passage.
It was something that did not attract much attention and after seeing it left us a little "disappointed" ...
After this, our dinner, our tea on deck and to rest, that tomorrow touches a main course: The Valley of the Kings!

Day 4: Visit Thebes Necropolis, Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut Temple, Colossi of Memnon. Transfer hotel Luxor, Afternoon: visit Karnak and Luxor temples.

Sunday, October 15, 2006

We have breakfast on the boat and wait for them to come to pick us up for our first visit of the day.
We disembarked in Luxor and headed to the Necropolis of Thebes and the Valley of the Kings, some of the places what to see in Egypt.
We begin to notice that today will be a complete day apart from hot in Egypt!
The Valley of the Kings of Egypt It is spectacular, even visiting it first thing in the morning, it is an exaggerated heat and we are trying to find some shade at every moment.
We visit 3 graves, each one more impressive.
A special air is breathed.
After about 3 hours, we set off for the Hatshepsut Temple.
When we see it in the distance, we begin to realize its magnitude.
It is really impressive.
We cannot stop asking ourselves the question that we have asked ourselves so much on this trip to Egypt and that after seeing many Temples, we continue to do today.
After this visit, we are transferred to see the Colossi of Memmnon, there we are half an hour, attending to the explanations of our guide and taking the photos of rigor.
After this visit, they take us to the Luxor Hotel and we rest for a while.
After sunset we will visit the Temples of Karnak and Luxor.
Again the same feeling invades us as in Philae ... they are extremely perfect!
We spend hours and hours visiting and stopping.
We are lucky to be able to see them illuminated at night and that gives us another vision.
After this, we only have to go back to the hotel, have dinner and rest in a bed "without movement". It's our first night at a hotel in Egypt.

Day 5: Travel to Dentera (Goddess Hathor) and return to Luxor.

Monday, October 16, 2006

We get up early and after breakfast, we go to Dendera, to visit the Temple of Goddess Hathor, another place what to see in Egypt.
Today is a quieter day and the visit is done more calmly.
We are impressed by the horoscope, there are things that cannot be explained and that no photo can reflect what you have seen.
These are things that always remain for those who have had the good fortune of being able to see and "feel it".
We see that the Temple is very well preserved and that makes us "move" to another time.
After this visit, we return to Luxor, where after a break, we are going to alley ...
Return to the hotel, dinner and sleep!

Day 6: Transfer to Aswan. Felucca ride on the Nile.

Tuesday, October 17, 2006

Today they leave us a little more time to sleep and we take advantage!
After breakfast, we return by bus to Aswan.
We have the big surprise of the day, when they tell us that due to a mistake, the hotel does not have our reservations, but they have been able to fix it and we will stay at the Old Catarat. Awesome hotel in every way.
The wonderful gardens, the spectacular rooms ... one of those hotels where you could spend days and days inside without getting tired!
We arrive at noon and after eating and resting a little, we have to relax taking a walk in Faluca.
It is a good experience, especially for the landscapes we see.
We return to the hotel and we have time to enjoy a little of the "complex", which we are excited to be able to stay there!

Day 7: Travel to Abú Simbel (Ramses II and Nefertari). Optional night visit to the temples of Abú Simbel, light and sound show.

Wednesday, October 18, 2006

Today we wake up a lot.
We have to visit the Temple of Abú Simbel, one of the places what to see in Egypt and one of the strongest points of the trip to Egypt and we got on the bus looking forward to seeing it.
After a few hours on desert roads (always preceded by a police convoy, we arrive at our destination.
We started walking along a path, to find the profile of the temple.
That is when most of us open their mouths and let out a sigh, followed by "this is wonderful."
Despite being full of tourists, we try to find the best places, to be able to take some photos and admire the whole.
We listen to the explanations of our guide in Egypt and leave us free time to visit it to our liking.
After a few hours there, we went to our hotel.
Tonight we have hired the show of light and sound, so we rest a little before taking the bus again, to take us for the 2nd time in the day to Abu Simbel.
The show is beautiful and impressive, but nothing compared to the day vision.
Today has been a long day, so after dinner, we rest for a while on some sun loungers and meet to see the dawn of the next day ... without agreeing too much on the time !!

Day 8: Return from Abú Simbel to Aswan and transfer to Cairo airport.

Thursday, October 19, 2006

Today we got up at 5.30 to see the sunrise, we took a few pictures and after breakfast we took the bus, heading to Aswan, from where we catch our flight to Cairo.
Today is a day of transfers.
The arrival in Cairo is a bit chaotic and we are gradually entering its streets, until we reach our hotel at night, ready to have dinner and rest.

Day 9: Visit Pyramids of Giza (Kefren, Cheops and Mikerinos, also the Sphinx). Optional visit to Memfis and Sakkara.

Friday, October 20, 2006

In the morning, after our usual breakfast, we set off for the visit to the Egyptian pyramids, another site what to see in Egypt.
The first thing that catches my attention is the first vision I have ... they are next to the city !!
We do not stop looking through the windows of the bus, it seems that they will not let us down and we want to take the views with us.
We are there about 2 hours (I think very little) and after the explanation of the guide, they let us visit the place ourselves.
After this they take us to see the Sphinx, where we are also for a while, taking walks, in order to get the best vision.
The only problem is that we are many tourists and we must go hollow.
After this good taste, we set out for Memphis, there we are about 2 hours, listening to explanations and walking.
It seems a lie, as after these days we are still impressed with everything we see.
After Memphis, we go to Sakkara, one of the best visits I've made.
I felt very relaxed, maybe there were fewer people and I could enjoy more tranquility.
After this, we go to our hotel, to rest and have a drink on one of its terraces.
Tomorrow is our last day of visits and we want to make the most of it.

Day 10: Visit to the Egyptian museum. Visit to the Citadel (Mohammed Ali Mosque) and Khan el Lhalili market.

Saturday, October 21, 2006

As usual on this vacation, we get back to the early morning.
First they take us to the Citadel and there we have stunning views of the city (very polluted) and the Mosque.
We enter the Mosque and breathe a little tranquility in the meantime visitor.
We are there all morning.
Then they take us to the most famous market "Khan el Lhalili", where we get lost in its streets, trying to find the last gifts we have left to buy.
The atmosphere is quite overwhelming, so in the end, we opted to stop at a bar for tea.
After this, they take us to the hotel and we decided to spend the last night of chat in one of the terraces, having tea.

Day 11: Return to Barcelona from Egypt

Sunday, October 22, 2006

Early riser And being the last day ... don't feel good at all!
We headed to Cairo airport, to return to Barcelona. We will come back to Egypt!!!
While we fly, we review the photos ...
Surely we will return, we do not know when, but we will return.
