The 18-day trip to Guatemala and Honduras It will take us to know much of the first and a small portion of the second. Having no more time we had to adapt the itinerary in Guatemala to include the most touristic places and of course, we had more desire to know and in Honduras make a small incursion in Copan and then finish the trip in Cayos Cochinos, one of the paradises that we really wanted to meet for years.

Guatemala country located in Central America is an example of culture, partly because of its Mayan heritage and partly because of its Castilian influence in the colonial era.

Being a relatively small country, it is quite easy to cover its most important and tourist enclaves such as Antigua, Chichicastenango, Lake Atitlan, Flores, Tikal, Semuc Champey, Río Dulce or Livingston.

The best way to visit Guatemala for free is to do it by bus, transport that reaches most corners of the country at very cheap prices. Inside this modality we found the chicken buses, old school buses from the United States for the most part, very economical and in which people and animals travel at equal percentages. These are frequent and economical, so they tend to be crowded and sometimes they can be annoying, although they are also a unique experience of mixing with the local population.

For the most tourist routes, between large cities or between highly visited enclaves, we can find buses, in which one seat is assigned per person. In these we can find greater comfort and luxuries, including in some even television or food service. Most trips are usually made during the day, although there are some exceptions, such as the route Guatemala City to Flores, which is carried out by the luxury company Línea Dorada, which carries out this journey at night. The best thing to do with a seat in one of these most comfortable buses is to contact a trusted agency from origin, you can check if the agency is registered in the registry in INGUAT, or once in Guatemala and thus secure the seat, especially if it is high season and a very popular route.

We can say that any time to travel to Guatemala It is good, although the weather can be divided into two quite specific periods: the rainy season, in winter, which runs from May to mid-October and the summer or dry season from November to April. At this time, despite being considered summer, it should be borne in mind that in some areas of the country, such as Petén, at the end of December, temperatures can reach below zero.

Honduras limits the north and east with the Caribbean Sea, southeast with Nicaragua, south with El Salvador and west with Guatemala, which will be our entry point to this new country. Little visited by tourists, for its safety-related news, we will focus on only 2 places in this country, Copan Ruinas, one of its most famous enclaves and Cayos Cochinos, a paradise outside and in the water, where we will spend the last days of this trip to Guatemala and Honduras in 18 days.

The best time to visit Honduras is in the dry season, which runs from the months of November to April and if what you want to visit is the Caribbean area and the island of Roatán, the best months are from March to May.

VISA is not necessary for a trip to Guatemala and Honduras with a Spanish passport. We recommend you always check the updated information before traveling on a reference website such as the Government of Guatemala
