Day 26: What to see in Easter Island: What to see in Hanga Roa, South Route Easter Island, North Route Easter Island, Northeast Route Easter Island, Sunrise in Tongariki and Rano Raraku, Ara O Te Moái or "Camino de los moás "

Today we had to start again with the routes of everything we have what to see in Easter Island, after the day we took yesterday to relax, taking advantage to enjoy the places to see in Hanga Roa, but the morning has given us a very covered and rainy day, so we have decided that we will take a few hours of relaxation , waiting for time to give us a little truce, and at least allow us to visit some of the places we have left what to see in Easter Island and that they are close to the Hangaroa Eco Village Spa.
As we said yesterday and we believe it is worth highlighting, this is one of the reasons why we believe it is important that, whenever possible, some extra days are added to the stay on Easter Island, in order to have these if a cloudy day dawns, you are tired or want to repeat some sunrise or sunset in places pointers of the island.

In our case we had made a forecast of the tour that only occupied us every morning every morning, in order to have every afternoon free and at the end once in Easter Island, seeing that there were days that were expected to have enough rain , we decided the first two days that it was very good weather, take advantage to make full days of visits so make sure, visiting the most important and at least expect that we would have seen these places in good weather, in addition to taking the best photographs to remember.

So what has touched us today has been to relax, enjoy the facilities of the hotel and how not of its gastronomy, charging energies with a great breakfast and a no better lunch, in which we have enjoyed a ceviche, a fish salad and a plate of fish of the day and another of meat, more desserts and coffees.

After a quiet dinner on the terrace, despite the bad weather, when it is 3:30 in the afternoon, we decided to go for a walk to Hanga Roa, since the weather is much clearer, although it is still cloudy, so Discover some of the areas closest to the hotel and take a walk around the town.
But as the weather forecast announced, although at one point it seemed that the weather could be fixed, it did not take more than 15 minutes for the sky to do its own thing again, unloading on us, so we have decided approaching us to the prison of Hanga Roa, a visit that may not seem very usual, but if you have a while, it is more than recommended.

Hanga Roa Jail

The prison of Hanga Roa, and of the whole island, is on the outskirts of the town, next to the police station, and is a set of small buildings, in which there are usually no more than 10 inmates.
Although it seems strange, you can visit the jail whenever you want, although not the interior facilities, and in addition to knowing the place, access the most curious souvenir shop on the island.
Here the inmates carve and make souvenirs at much tighter prices than in the rest of the island, something that may be less interesting.
They do not accept credit cards, so if you intend to buy something, it is best to bring cash.

Easter Island Souvenirs

The price of Easter Island souvenirs It is not exactly low and economical. The only thing that can be found, which is more or less cheap, is the typical souvenir that is a magnet, bookmarks, key chains or small moai that are not made of volcanic stone, but are made with a kind of stone / cement , which are much cheaper than those of volcanic stone, since it is practically depleted on the island and prices are much higher.
The same goes for all wood carvings. In Easter Island there is practically no wood, so the sizes you will find are quite expensive, especially if you look at the pieces of macavi, a very special way that grows only here in Polynesia and that it takes to become a bush of about 40 centimeters, which is what is needed to make the size, about 12-15 years. So you can get an idea of prices, right?
The carvings of this type of wood, for example a Kava Kava, can leave a piece of about 20-25 centimeters quietly from about 180000CLP to 650000CLP.
In the jail you can find large pieces from about 50000CLP (no of macavi), a price that is about a third of the prices in Hanga Roa, although as you can guess, they do not have much assortment, so there is not much to choose from.

After the visit to the jail and seeing that the weather has no intention of improving, we approach Hanga Roa, to a cafeteria to have a drink, and later in the afternoon, return to the Hangaroa Eco Village Spa to spend the rest of the afternoon resting and taking advantage to work a while before dinner and end another day on the magical island, on Easter Island.

Since today has been a relaxing day and there is little to tell, we wanted to take the opportunity to leave you the routes that we believe are more valid to enjoy all the places what to see in Easter Island.
As we have commented in several moments of this trip to Chile and Easter Island, having an extra day in Rapa Nui is practically essential, both to rest and to know with tranquility all the most important places.
We, as you have seen, both by resting and by the time he has given us, in which we have had two rainy days, have had to modify the initial planning we had, something for which having those extra days has resulted perfect, leaving the rainy days to rest and the days of good weather to make the visits.

We will take advantage of this day somewhat empty As for information, to leave here the routes we had planned, with their corresponding maps, so that if you are lucky enough to have good weather days, you can take them as an example.
