Hotels in Tibet and Shanghai

Shanghai Fish Inn East Nanjing Road

Very central hotel in the Bund, a few meters from the Nanging Road East stop. See the article "How to get from the airport to Shanghai" how to get to the hotel from the airport.
Although the hotel is quite hidden in a very narrow alley, we had read that it did not give a very good impression. The truth is that it has not seemed to us, even arriving as we arrived at night.
The rooms are not too big, but enough to spend a few days comfortably, since the bed is very comfortable and has everything you need. The bathroom is integrated into the room with a window, but has a blind so that it is not visible from the room itself.
There is a desk and quite a few plugs in the room, in addition to a water heater in which to make coffee or tea.
They have free wifi, included in the price of the room and goes quite fast and without cuts.
Although breakfast is not included in the room, we see that next to the reception there is a fairly spacious lounge, with a cafeteria service where they serve coffee at quite reasonable prices, as well as a variety of cakes and pastries.

There are plenty of restaurants and shops right next to the hotel, so you won't have any problem to be able to stock up in case you want to buy something for breakfast or even for the train ride, if you then make a trip to Tibet like us.

Tashitakge Hotel Lhasa

Hotel located in Barkhor, the most traditional area of Lhasa and without a doubt, after our experience, the best area to stay in Lhasa.
You can not access by car but if you call the hotel or tell them by e-mail, they come to find you on the general road to help you with your luggage. From the road are four minutes walk, but that help is appreciated, since being at 3650 meters of altitude, it shows and much to carry with a backpack.
Although the exterior may not seem like it, the interior is a beautiful, traditional hotel with exquisite decoration, as if it were an interior courtyard and they are surrounded by rooms distributed on different floors.

Reception hotel Lhasa

We have seen in some opinions that some guests complain that there is no elevator. This is true, but when you have to climb the backpacks there is a guy who helps you, so the effort you have to make is minimal. Then, the days you are traveling Lhasa, you have to take it easy and go up the stairs without hurry. Something to keep in mind is that they have oxygen if necessary.
The rooms are decorated in a traditional way, are very spacious and have a very comfortable bed, The cleanliness in all the facilities is much higher than the Chinese standards, something we have to say, it is much appreciated.
The bathroom is completely accidental and everything is quite new. It has bathroom accessories and something very important, especially for us, is that it has many plugs in the room.
Another important thing is that the hotel has free quality Wi-Fi on all floors.

In addition to everything discussed, another of the best things is the terrace, where breakfast is served and from where you have really impressive views of the Potala Palace, which although seen from afar, are really impressive.
Breakfast is included in the price of the room and is quite complete. You can choose between scrambled eggs, fried eggs, toast, jam, butter, coffee and tea as well as several hot dishes typical of Chinese and Tibetan cuisine.

Tsedang Hotel

The third of the Hotels in Tibet and Shanghai The one we stayed in was in Tsedang and it is the typical big city hotel, specially designed for organized groups.
The rooms are quite large, with comfortable beds and western bathrooms. Although the service leaves a little to be desired, since it costs us a lot to check in, even having the great luck that Pasang is with us and manages everything.
In general, the cleanliness is quite correct, as are the rest of the facilities and the free Wi-Fi service is quite correct.

Something that catches our attention is that although the facilities are immense, including three restaurants plus one pair VIP customersWhen we ask to go to dinner, we have no possibility since they tell us that everything is closed, although we see that they are serving food in another area, where they do not let us pass directly.
At our insistence, they tell us that they do not have western food either, despite having a restaurant where they advertise this type of food and where after insisting several times, by signs they only tell us that they can serve us 2 dishes of the whole menu and being these typical of Chinese cuisine.
The price is 588RMB per night, a price that we believe is exorbitant for what they offer, as well as the 4 stars with which it is cataloged.

Yeti Hotel

Hotel in Gyantse. The rooms are quite large and very clean, although the bathroom is close, in a matter of cleanliness, to Chinese standards. All rooms have heating, perfect especially in times of cold, in addition to a humidifier, which after trying it, we have to say it goes great to avoid dry throat.
As in all Shanghai and Tibet hotels We've been, we have a kettle / water heater and several tea bags.
There is restaurant service for lunch and / or dinner and breakfast, included in the price of the room, is quite complete, including toast and jam.

Shigatse Hotel

Hotel in Shigatse of 4 stars, managed by the government and that has come less with time.
It is an immense hotel, with large rooms, but not very careful in the details, leaving more than obvious that it needs an urgent reform, something that Pasang tells us, they will do so during the next two years, closing at the end of this month of April.

The rooms are spacious, quite clean and have heating and humidifier, which as we said before, is something excellent, especially at these altitudes.
There is free Wi-Fi, available in all facilities and it goes quite well, both in speed and in cuts.
The breakfast is buffet, quite varied, with Chinese food, toast and cookies, as well as coffee and tea. It is included in the price of the room.

Rongbuk Monastery Guesthouse

Hotel managed by the Rongbuk Monastery and located right in front of it. This is of all Shanghai and Tibet hotels in which we have stayed, the least adapted to the needs of the traveler.
The private double rooms are the right size and have two beds with two duvets each plus an electric blanket and pillow. The windows are not sealed and in every room there is some broken glass, so the cold and the wind they sneak mercilessly, especially during the night.
It is highly recommended to sleep dressed, with several layers, including some thermal, in addition to sleeping two in a bed to give heat. Doing this, we have to say that we even had to disconnect the electric blanket, since we had even heat.

Although after commenting you can think that this would be the last place you would stay, we have to say that it is one of the most incredible accommodations we have ever been and that is to say that all private rooms have views to the impressive Everest from the window.
Sleeping in front of the Roof of the World, with the sound of the wind against the windows makes you feel part of nature, in addition to having the possibility of living a unique and unforgettable sunrise on Everest.

Everest from the Rongbuk Monastery Guesthouse

Both dinner and breakfast are served in the lounge, also with incredible views of Everest, which is heated by a stove with yak droppings. It is the menu there are a variety of dishes adapted to the western palate and at adjusted prices.
Breakfast is included in the price of the room and is coffee or tea with tortillas and pancakes, which, by the way, are very good.
The bathroom is the only thing "bad"It is shared and is not a bathroom to use, since it is only a latrine, separated men and women, but open and without doors, something that as you can imagine, is not too nice.
