Punctual starts boarding and punctual we take off to enjoy a flight of just over 2 hours that takes us to Copenhagen, that European city that we still did not know and that we wanted to have so much face to face.

How to go from the airport to Copenhagen

In our case and taking into account that the Norreport station, on the yellow line, where the Nora Hotel is located, our accommodation in Copenhagen, is located 900 meters away, we decided that the metro is the best option for go from the airport to Copenhagen, arriving in the city in less than 15 minutes, at which time we can already say that our getaway to Copenhagen begins, when we find ourselves in the streets of a city that surprises us with an incredibly sunny day.

Copenhagen

The first thing we do, after arriving from Copenhagen downtown airport, is to find a cashier, in which to get money. Remember that in order not to pay commissions and always have the current change we recommend you use the N26 card to pay and the Bnext and Revolut cards to get money at the ATMs. They are the ones we use, They are free and will save you a lot.
You can find more information in this article about the best cards to travel without commissions.

Money in Copenhagen

  • Card Payment: It is important to keep in mind that in Copenhagen, the use of the card is very widespread, so this is one of the most common forms of payment, with which you will also have the most adjusted change and you will not have to worry about carrying cash.
  • Remove from the cashier with card: As we mentioned before, according to our experience, the Bnext and Revolut card, since you can get money at the cashier, with the change of the day.
At this point, it is important to know that both at the airport and in the city, there are ATMs in which the bank is not well identified and in which only indicated "Change". It is important to check the exchange rate they make, since in our case, when we tested it, they did not do that of the banks and we lost approximately 10% in the operation we were going to do.
  • Change in agency: Another option is to directly exchange euros to crowns at any exchange agency. In our experience, this is the least advisable option, since commissions are usually high and the change is worse.

N26 Card

It is 2:30 p.m., when after having taken money at the ATM, we decided that before going to check in at the hotel and leave our bags, it is best to go find somewhere to eat, so We opted for Homemate Torvehallerne, right on the way to the hotel, which is a market divided into two parts, where there are many stands, where in addition to selling different gastronomic products from different parts of the world, there are also small restaurants, in which you can eat in a lively environment.

Homemate Torvehallerne

We, after a couple of laps, decided on Sushi Lovers, a highly recommended restaurant, where we ordered three varieties of rolls plus water and a beer for 475 crowns.
Before continuing with the story of the day, tell you that you have to keep in mind that Copenhagen is one of the most expensive cities in the world and in restaurants it is one of the points where it is most noticeable. For example, in this restaurant, we have paid for a beer 50 crowns, which is equivalent to approximately 7 euros, a fairly high price, compared to other destinations.

Sushi Lovers

After lunch and with the stomach and body full of energy, when it is 3:30 pm we continue the road to the Nora Hotel, 600 meters from the market, where after a quick check in and a break of just over 15 minutes, we return to the streets of Copenhagen, a city that has received us in the best way and from which still taking only a couple of hours, we can already say that it has conquered us.

As soon as we meet again in the streets of Copenhagen, one of the things that surprise us the most and that had already caught our attention when we arrived from the airport, is the amount of bicycles that are in the city, the respect in matters of circulation and that although there are many people on the street and the festive atmosphere is noticeable on the terraces of restaurants and bars, which are full of people, all the scenes have a common denominator and it is respect, silence or low tone, which makes to walk around the city or live it It is a real pleasure for those of us who appreciate tranquility and run away from screaming.

Before continuing with the story, we want to comment that after the experience, we believe that this trip to Copenhagen is perfectly feasible to do it in a couple of days, although it is highly recommended to have one or two days to enjoy the city with tranquility, take advantage to know some of the most recommended places and even, if you like photography and want to enjoy the sun, have a time frame, in case any of the days is rainy or cloudy.

Copenhagen

The first stop of the day is at Paludan Café, one of the most recommended places in Copenhagen, where the bookshop concept is mixed with a small cafe-restaurant, which we have to confess, it surprises us greatly, since it is a clear example of the premises that we like and where we would stay for several hours, just enjoying the life pass.
Keep in mind that as in many other cafes or restaurants, coffee is not exactly cheap, in this case there are 20 crowns, although as we said, it is totally worth it.

They coffee

It is 5:30 pm when we continue our route through Copenhagen, putting into practice what we were commenting before, deciding that today it will be a first contact with the city, which allows us to take pictures of the best known areas, since we have a day of the sunniest and seeing the forecasts, you have to take advantage of it!
We continue on a walk through the Latin Quarter, until we reach Strøget, the longest pedestrian street in Europe, which has become one of the main arteries of the city, where we take the opportunity to see more closely the most commercial part of the city.

Strøget

Strøget

As we mentioned earlier, Strøget is known for being the longest pedestrian shopping street in Europe, as well as being one of the city's best known and busiest streets, both by locals and tourists.
Although the best known is Strøget, we also recommend you to stroll along some of its parallel streets, somewhat smaller, such as Østergade, Nygade, Vimmelskaftet, but that maintain the essence of the first one and are also surrounded by shops and stores, many of them with A very special charm.
To walk this street in full, we advise you to start at the Town Hall Square, Town Hall Square until you reach Kongens Nytorv, one of the most beautiful squares in Copenhagen, which also highlights many of the historic buildings that surround it, the statue of Christian V.

Kongens Nytorv

Although after commenting it may seem that Strøget is only interesting if you want to buy, nothing is further from reality, since it is one of the most frequented places, where you can see more closely the life of Copenhagen, without having to do no purchase, in addition to seeing how more or less well-known brands are mixed and interspersed, which also give multiple options to travelers who want to leave Copenhagen, in addition to a visit to one of the most incredible cities in the world, with a souvenir to your closet

After having a good time in Kongens Nytorv, we continue today's route through some of the places to see in Copenhagen, approaching Nyhavn, the most photographed place in the city and probably the busiest.

Nyhavn, one of the essential visits of Copenhagen

Nyhavn, also known as "new Port" It is that place that every traveler will pass, probably on more than one occasion, during their stay in Copenhagen, since it is the image that we probably all have in mind, when we think of this city.
Curiously, this channel, many years ago famous for being the place where sailors and prostitutes lived, today has become a symbol of the city, thanks to its famous colorful painted houses and restaurants and bars that have turned it into a corner in which the good atmosphere is assured.
In addition, Nyhavn is one of the places from which the Copenhagen Tourist Boat departs, one of the essential things to do in Copenhagen, which we did on the last day of the trip and that was an experience.

Nyhavn

As a curiosity, we will tell you that Hans Christian Andersen lived in several houses of Nyhavn, at number 6, 18 and 20, for being a perfect place for him, being so close to the theater, and it was also here that he created the story child known as The princess and the Pea.

Nyhavn

Whenever you have time, we recommend getting to know Nyhavn both day and night, as it is one of the places that seems to transform when the sun goes down, lighting up in a very special way and making this place one of the most beautiful in the Than spend the last hours of the day.
Keep in mind that in the morning the sun will face you in the most photographed part, so it is interesting to come in the afternoon, at which time the light is much more suitable, since the sun is in the part from behind the houses.

Nyhavn

After being practically 45 minutes, crossing the canal several times, enjoying the atmosphere and the color of the incredible houses that surround it, we continue the tour of the city, walking through the port area, until we reach the famous Little Mermaid, another of the symbols of Copenhagen, which we are sure, no traveler leaves the city without knowing it.
Although it may seem that the most touristic points of the city are very far apart, whenever you have time, we recommend you visit them on foot, since Copenhagen is one of the most suitable cities for walking, finding numerous green areas between the buildings, which They make a walk an experience in itself.
In case you do not have much time or do not want to walk so much, you can always travel by subway, which is included in the Copenhagen Card.

The Little Mermaid of Copenhagen

It does not take more than 15 minutes to reach the famous Little Mermaid, where nothing else arrives, we have the impression that it is much smaller than we imagined, something that we had already read, but still, continues to call us a lot of attention.

The Little Mermaid of Copenhagen

The Little Mermaid of Copenhagen

Donated to the city by the Jacobsen family, owners of the Carlsberg factory, this sculpture by sculptor Edvard Eriksen, is one of the symbols of the city and as Nyhavn, one of the places you cannot miss in the city.
Sitting on a rock and with a height of less than one meter, The Little Mermaid causes travelers a series of mixed sensations and it is that we are not few who come to it hoping to find a larger sculpture, although we know its dimensions, at the same time that we were enthralled, looking at it, for being the most visited monument in Denmark.

The Little Mermaid of Copenhagen

After being here for a long time, enjoying the sculpture and all the commotion that originates around it, we decided to walk again through the gardens that surround it, an authentic haven of peace, by the time it is 8 pm, return on our steps, passing again through Nyhavn, to go directly to the Skindbuksen restaurant, which has an extensive menu of fish and meat, where we order a typical Copenhagen hamburger and a steak tartare, plus two waters, for 420 crowns.
Although we have to confess that it is not bad, this time, the hamburger has been well above the steak tartare, so we would not know whether to recommend it as an essential or not.

Dinner at Skindbuksen Restaurant

With the stomach already prepared to follow the route, we return to Nyhavn, how could it be otherwise and being so close, to enjoy this already illuminated area, which gives us one of the most incredible images of Copenhagen, which as we said before , we recommend you not to get lost.

Nyhavn

From here and when a few minutes past 10 at night, we decided that the time has come to return to the Nora Hotel, our accommodation in Copenhagen, where we fall like children, surrendered to the ground and fatigue, which we face with the enormous smile of knowing that coming to Copenhagen has been a real success.

Copenhagen route of the day

Today's route has taken us through some of Copenhagen's best known locations such as the Bastard Café, Strøget, Nyhavn and the famous Little Mermaid.

Day 2: Copenhagen in one day: Rosenborg Castle, Amalienborg Palace, Marble Church, Kastellet, (the Little Mermaid, Nyhavn), Stroget, Bastard Café, Rundetaarn, Tivoli
