Taking into account the extension of the country and the amount of places to visit in Thailand essential, for a first trip we would recommend you to have an average of 3 weeks, enough time that will allow you to know the most prominent places in the country such as Bangkok, Ayuthaya, Sukhothai , Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, and then spend a few days at the end of the trip to Thailand on one of its islands, enjoying incredible landscapes and postcard beaches.

Thailand travel guide

In our case, this will be the second trip to thailand that we do, but taking into account that the previous one was a trip to Thailand of 21 days and several years ago, on this occasion, we have decided to return to the same route to be able to return to some of the places that most impressed us in the country to expand the information we had and do this travel guide to Thailand much more complete.

As we mentioned, this time we will return to the same itinerary, spending 5 days to know the essential places to visit in Bangkok, including a trip to the Mae Klong Market and the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, and then start the route heading to Ayuthaya , where we will spend a couple of days and continue to Sukhothai, where we will enjoy a day of this incredible place.
From here we will take a bus to Chiang Rai, which we will visit for the first time for 3 days and then go to Chiang Mai, where we will be 6 days discovering the city again and also knowing new places, which we are sure will make us continue in love with country of smiles.

Sukhothai in Thailand

After this travel route to Thailand, we will start the second stage, flying to Krabi, to spend 5 days in the Phi Phi Islands and thus know them a little more thoroughly and above all, enjoy them with some more time than we had the other Once, we only spent a few hours on a day trip from Ao Nang.

From here and already entering the last stage of the trip, we will go by ferry to Koh Lipe, where we will spend the last 10 days of the trip, in a cabin facing the sea, which we know, will be the best way to end this trip to thailand.

When to make a trip to Thailand?

We could say, without fear of being wrong, that you can travel to thailand at any time of the year and enjoy it to the fullest. But we understand that such an extensive and poorly defined response can help you, so we are going to make a summary, by more tourist areas of the country, according to the best times to travel, taking into account, especially, the monsoon times.

North Zone: Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai
In this area of the country, we could say at a general level that the months of March to June are the hottest, followed by the time of July to September that are the rainiest and from October to February, the coolest, although temperatures are reached always higher than 25 degrees.

With all of the above in mind, we believe that the months of November and December are the best for traveling north of Thailand, something that makes it one of the best trips for autumn.

East side: Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
In this area of the coast of Thailand, the hottest months are from April to September, followed by the wettest time of the year, which are the months of October and November and the coldest time that usually goes from December to February.

With these data, the best time to make a trip to the eastern part of Thailand would be between the months of December and March, when it rains less and temperatures are more benign.

West zone: Phuket, Krabi and the Andaman Sea area
The western part of Thailand could be divided into two distinct periods. From May to October, which is the rainy season, especially in July and August, and the rest of the year, in which they are much less frequent.
With these considerations, the best time to travel to the western part of Thailand, would be between the months of December to March, especially in December and January, which are months in which it is not very stifling heat and are perfect to enjoy long Days at the beach

Best time to make a trip to Thailand

If we put all this data together, to travel to thailand Taking a tour that includes several of the most tourist areas such as Bangkok, Ayuthaya, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai and some area of the coast such as Krabi, we believe that the best time would be the months of November, December and January, which are the least rainy and With more pleasant temperatures.

Keep in mind that despite everything we have said before, the weather is totally unpredictable, so as we said at the beginning, it is best to do the trip to thailand When you can and enjoy to the fullest, have the weather you have.

Accommodation in Thailand

Accommodation is usually always one of our biggest concerns, especially in a trip to thailand, in which there are endless options for all budgets, tastes and needs.
Taking into account our experience, we want to leave you some advice regarding accommodation in Thailand, so that your choice is as accurate as possible.

  • In case you do not want to book all the accommodations for your trip in advance, it is advisable to book the first night minimum. Keep in mind that you will get tired of the flight, probably without knowing very well how the transport works or the country in general. At that time, have a home in which to take a shower and rest, we assure you that it is main.
  • If you want to save, forget about the most central areas of the cities and seek to stay in somewhat more remote and quiet areas, but with good communication with the main tourist attractions by public transport. Keep in mind that in Thailand the use of tuk tuk and the taxi is very widespread and for little money, you can move easily.
  • In Thailand there are incredibly cheap accommodations. Before booking, do not get carried away by the excitement and assess whether it compensates you to stay in a tiny room, with a doubtful hygiene or prefer to pay a few euros more and rest comfortably.
  • Don't trust taxi drivers or hooks They are usually at the stations waiting for lost travelers. They will usually take you to low-cost hotels that want to fill their rooms at all costs, without paying much attention to the conditions. This is not a general rule, but unfortunately it happens very often, so it is worth taking certain precautions and before going, look at some opinions on the internet to make sure.
  • If you go with the days counted, on many occasions you usually go to account to book hotels in Thailand in advance and so don't worry about this and only dedicate yourself to enjoying the incredible kingdom of Siam.
