Where to sleep in South Africa has been one of the questions you have asked us most during the trip to South Africa in 25 days. With this in mind, we wanted to make a list of all the hotels and accommodations we have slept in in South Africa for free, as well as the camps during the Kruger safari for free.

Circa Luxury Apartment Hotel

The first of the hotels to sleep in South Africa we recommend is the Circa Luxury Apartment with a very central location, next to Long Street and the Waterfront, two of the places to see on the routes of Cape Town in one day and Cape Town In 2 days.

The hotel has apartment-style rooms, with a large living room and kitchen, with all the comforts, as well as free quality Wi-Fi and private parking for R100 per day.
Something very interesting is that in the room they leave you two adapters for South Africa, since these are not usually included in the universal adapters, which you can buy for R140.

Hermanus Backpackers & Budget Accommodation

The second accommodation in South Africa The one we stayed in was for whale watching in Hermanus.
A little away from the most central area of the town, but very quiet, it has shared rooms and private rooms with bathrooms located in a house attached to the main building with private parking and Wi-Fi included in the room price.
Although breakfast is not included in the price, several tuppers with sausage and bread are left in the fridge so you can have a quick breakfast if you have an early excursion or tour.

With them you can hire the excursion to see whales in Hermanus by R700 with one of the most recommended companies in the town.

Malagas Hotel

Located about 30 kilometers from the Hoop Reserve, one of the places to see on the Garden Route, the Malagas Hotel is one of the accommodation in South Africa with greater potential but worse managed in which we have stayed.

The price is approximately 90 euros for the double room and includes breakfast and dinner, something essential, due to the remoteness of any place where you can do it, if they were of quality, something that does not happen.
The rooms are correct and although they report that they have Wi-Fi, it has no signal either in the rooms or in the common areas.

Mandalay Guest House

Hotel located in Plettenberg Bay, is the perfect option for this section of the Garden Route in South Africa.
Located in a residential area, the rooms are very large with balcony and have a lot of charm, they are also very clean. Account, like the rest of the accommodation where to sleep in South Africa with private parking included in the price and Wi-Fi in the rooms.
Breakfast is not included in the price of the room, but for R70 it is very complete, in addition to that they prepare it at the moment and it is all homemade. Highly recommended!

Andelomi Forest Lodge

Located very close to Tsitsikamma National Park, Andelomi Forest Lodge is one of the places where to sleep in South Africa more successful in this area of the route.
It has small terraced houses, very comfortable and spacious, with breakfast included in the price of the room, which is very complete and they prepare you at the moment.
The only problem is that although they have Wi-Fi, in the last rooms this does not work and you have to leave the room to connect.

Hampshire Hotel

Located in Ballito, very close to Durban airport, this was the place where we chose sleep in South Africa after the flight from Port Elizabeth to Durban, to start the second stage of South Africa for free.

With spacious and clean rooms it is a perfect option to make an intermediate stop for sleeping, as it is located right next to the road and has private parking. Breakfast is not included in the room price.

Lake St Lucia Lodge

Located in the town of St. Lucia, the perfect base to know all the places to see in Isimangaliso and go on a hippo tour in St. Lucia, the Lake St Lucia Lodge is one of the best accommodations where sleep in South Africa.

The rooms are small cabins with private bathrooms, very careful, from which at night you can see the hippos that leave the estuary heading to the village to eat, and then, first thing in the morning, return to the estuary.
Breakfast is not included in the price of the room, it has private parking and the wifi signal is quite low, although all this compensates with the excellent attention we received by the owner, who also managed the reservation for the boat excursion through the estuary.
It is important to keep in mind that you have to pay in cash.

Hlane Ndlovu Camp

In Hlane Park, in Swaziland, according to our experience, the best option in which to stay is Hlane Ndlovu Camp, a camp at the entrance of the park, which stands out for the possibility of staying in traditional Rondavels, without electricity and having in front of the restaurant a pond in which it is common to see elephants, rhinos and hippos that are going to cool off and drink.
Without a doubt one of the places where to sleep in South Africa more amazing If you want to know more about the accommodation and the park, be sure to read the post "Hlane Park, one of the places to see in Swaziland".

Havana Nights

Hotel in Graskop, perfect base to explore the places to see on the Panorama Route, Havana Nights is one of the most recommended hotels in the town.
Very spacious rooms, we are upgraded to a huge apartment with two rooms, the only problem is that they have no heating and the temperature drops dramatically at night, something that is not solved either with blankets or with the stoves that leave you .
Breakfast is not included in the room price and they have private parking. The wifi is free but has virtually no signal.
