Based on the experience of the time we spent in the city during our trip to Amsterdam in 5 days, we explain the most common ways to go from the airport to Amsterdam. We start!
Train
The train is the fastest way to do the transfer from Amsterdam airport to Central Station, located in the heart of the city, taking about 20 minutes.
The trains, which leave from the station below the arrivals terminal and have a price of just over 5 euros, operate 24 hours a day, with a frequency of about 10 minutes during the day and one hour during the early morning.
Among the trains you can choose is the Intercity direct, which does not make any intermediate stop, and the Sprinter that stops at Lelylaan and Sloterdijk.
A good recommendation to stay in the city is to look for a hotel near the Central Station. In this way you will have a good connection to the airport and you will be a few minutes from the center, located in the popular Dam Square.
We stayed at the Singel Hotel, located next to the Singel Canal and 200 meters from Amsterdam Central Station. In addition to its excellent location, the hotel has a 24-hour reception and a good breakfast.

Bus to go from Amsterdam airport to downtown
Another of the best ways to get to the center of Amsterdam from the airport, are the bus lines 397 and the N97, which operates at dawn.
Bus 397 or Amsterdam Airport Express, which used to be bus 197, travels from the airport to the center of Amsterdam in about 30 minutes for 5 euros. These buses operate from 5 in the morning until 1 in the morning, with a frequency of about 10 minutes.
It is necessary to take into account when taking the bus that the stop is located in front of the terminal, in the Schiphol Plaza, and the last stop of the route is at the Elandsgracht Bus Station, located 15 minutes by tram from the central station.
If your hotel is not near this last stop you have other interesting stops that are closer to the center or to places of interest such as Leidseplein, Museumplein or Rijksmuseum.
During the 1 and 5 in the morning the N97 bus takes the transfer from the airport to the center of Amsterdam, which has a frequency of 30 minutes and the advantage that the final stop is at the Central Station.

The Schiphol Hotel Shuttle will take you from Amsterdam airport to your hotel for 17 euros or 28 euros, if you take a round trip. Before hiring this transfer service it is advisable to check its official website to verify that your hotel is included in the stops.
The transfer is made in 8-passenger minibuses with free Wi-Fi, although it has the inconvenience that you have to wait for them to be filled and stop at each hotel of each passenger, so the time lost I may not compensate you.
Private transport
The most comfortable option to go from Amsterdam airport to the center is to book this private transfer. When hiring this service you have a driver who will wait for you at the exit of the terminal, with a cartel with your name, which will leave you in front of the door of your hotel, in less than half an hour.
The price in a 4-seater tourism is 55 euros and in an 8-seater is 70 euros. As you can see if you are more than 3 people it will be cheaper than the Schiphol Hotel Shuttle, so it is a more recommended option.
Cab
The taxi for a price around 45 euros will take you from Amsterdam airport to the center in half an hour, depending on traffic.
