East trip to Colombia It will allow us to approach one of the countries that we most wanted to know and to be able to finally live what they say, is one of the most fascinating places in the world.
Located in the northwestern area of South America, the Republic of Colombia is a republic consisting of 32 departments and the capital District of Bogotá, which is the seat of government.
As a curiosity we can say that this trip to Colombia will also take us to the only country in South America that has coasts in both the Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean, which bathe the coasts of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.
With a population of almost 50 million inhabitants, Colombia is the 28 most populous country in the world and the second with more Spanish speakers, something that places it only behind Mexico.

With an incredible variety of landscapes, cities full of history, culture, welcoming people and a gastronomy that we are sure we will be passionate about, this trip to Colombia It will take us practically to travel all its most tourist places although although we know that with only 46 days we will not be able to cover the whole country, much less, we will try to visit its most known places, in order to explain in the blog all the details for travel to Colombia.

It must be taken into account that Colombia is a very large country, with an area of 1141748km², something that places it as the twenty-sixth largest country in the world and the seventh largest in America, something that makes the climate depends a lot on the area and we can't determine exactly what is the best season to make a trip to Colombia, although we can do the following classification:

  • High season (from December to February): these are the most tourist months of the country due to the good weather for the most part, except for the Amazon area. It is also the best time to travel to San Andres and Providencia.
  • Mid season (from March to September): this is also a perfect time to take a trip to Colombia, especially if you want to see whales on the Pacific coast (from July to October) or enjoy Cartagena de Indias at its best. Despite this we cannot forget that April and May is a rainy season in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Cartagena de Indias.
  • Low season (from October to November): during these months it usually rains in Cartagena de Indias and many Andean areas are flooded. However, it is the best time to visit the Amazon due to the low water level.

Regarding transport, in this trip we have chosen to use public transport, private transport and rental car, depending on the area, both for a total freedom of schedules and movements, as for security, since each area of this country , has different characteristics.
In the post Route through Colombia for free we explain in detail the places we will visit in this trip to Colombia and how we will move between them and in this same post you can find an article of each day with all the places we visit, recommendations, tips ... etc.

Something also very important to consider is the security in Colombia, a debate that arises immediately when you plan to make a trip to Colombia And above all, you discuss it with family and friends. After reading a lot about the subject and talking with friends who have already made this trip, we understood again that we had put our own fears into reality again, just as we did on the trip to Guatemala and Honduras or the trip to Mexico , countries where we were robbed: but the heart.

In Colombia, as in any other country, you have to travel with common sense without "give papaya", as they say, but this does not mean that currently doing a trip to Colombia is synonymous with having problems or securing a ticket to an unpleasant surprise. People are usually very quick judging and very slow reflecting or rectifying. But do you know the most incredible of this? None of those people who treated us crazy for making this trip to Colombia had been. We believe that this detail already says everything. So, here we go!
