How to go to Barichara in Colombia It is one of the first questions we asked ourselves when we started to prepare the route through Colombia for free. And it is not exactly easy to reach this town in the north of the country, known for being one of the most beautiful villages in Colombia in which its cobbled streets and colonial architecture stand out.

After doing a route yesterday for all the things to see and do in Villa de Leyva that we had pointed out, today we continue the trip to Colombia in 46 days with the route from Villa de Leyva to Barichara, where we will spend this afternoon and much of tomorrow.

We woke up in Casa Provenzal, our accommodation in Villa de Leyva these last two nights, when it is 6 in the morning and after working a little and having breakfast in the inner courtyard, we say goodbye to one of the most familiar accommodations in which we have state never, of which we will always remember the kindness with which Concha has treated us.

At 8 o'clock in the morning we already have a taxi waiting for us at the door, which we have hired through Casa Barichara Boutique, which will be our accommodation in Barichara tonight and with whom we have also booked the transport tomorrow to Bucaramanga, to the Next day catch a flight to Cartagena de Indias.

How to get to Barichara from Villa de Leyva

As we said several times in the previous days, making the route we are doing through Villa de Leyva with a stop to visit the Laguna de Guatavita and then go to Barichara, it is not easy if you want to do it by public transport and have few days.
For this reason, we have chosen to hire private transport and thus be able to make the most of the time.

How to get to Barichara from Villa de Leyva

There are several options for go from Villa de Leyva to Barichara:

  • Public transport: this is the cheapest way but also the most complicated and long. If you choose this option you must go from your accommodation in Villa de Leyva to the bus station, there take a bus to Tunja and there another bus to San Gil. Once there, you must take another transport to Barichara and then move to your accommodation. As you can see the combination involves a lot of transport change and you should also keep in mind that not all buses connect at times, so you may have to wait to find a bus in one of the sections.
  • Private transport: this is the option we have chosen. We hired her as we have commented with Casa Barichara Boutique and we have paid 400000COP for a 4-hour journey from Villa de Leyva to Barichara.
In addition we also hire with them the private transport from Barichara to Bucaramanga, which is 3 hours, for 330000COP.

Barichara in Colombia

In our case we will be all afternoon today and tomorrow morning, so we have thought that the best thing is in the next article, talk about the places to see in Barichara in a more extensive way, taking into account that Most travelers go through this town for a full day as we will.
That said and after the experience, we have to say that we believe that the best thing to enjoy it, if you have an extra day on your trip, is to spend 2-3 days in the town or even spend a week here at the end of the trip, but You like the beach and you don't want to go to any island.

Barichara, the most beautiful town in Colombia

After getting lost in the streets of Barichara, where we spend time flying and without looking at the clock once, it is 3 o'clock when we approach the restaurant Shanti, one of the most recommended, where we order a mushroom ceviche, Pasta dish, glass of wine and lemonade for 65000COP.
Delicious and also a vegetarian-vegan place, with a lot of charm where you can see how they cook.

Shanti Restaurant

After lunch we get lost again in the most central area of Barichara, this time in the most central area, where we visit all the places we have on the list and which we will talk about tomorrow, including the Barichara viewpoints, to end up in your square Main, where we had something before going to dinner at the 7 Tigres Restaurant where we ordered an incoming carriage, Mediterranean pizza plus two waters for 43000COP.
Pretty good but with a lousy service that make us not able to recommend the place as a whole.
